It's good that these are in Australia now - the premiums were quite high coming from overseas.

These should be pure bullion coins though - having a maximum mintage of 8 million for the 1oz and no annual change in design.

    I Disagree... why?

Legal Tender - 500 dram for the 1oz (govt backed)

Yes 8 million - but how many will actually get sold.. i say FAR less.. the total number will be FAR FAR less *(think UNLIMITED mintage 2010 Taku)

"no annual change in design" - technically YES but the date will be updated yearly so the secondary market will be able to distinguish hence allowing for appreciating earlier dates as collectors chase back years..

In conclusion, there is nothing stopping these being as big as any other bullion coin (except the design does/may not change) but the novelty of another govt-backed legal tender with low premiums and a nice design to boot make these a worthy competitor to PM product for sure!

I think we're on the same page here - they will be as big as any other bullion coin but potentially not much more than that. Who knows, they could go the way of the 2010 Taku or maybe they will go the way of eagles and maples.

I do have a couple of the 2011 arks but only for variety. Hopefully they do go up in value.

If I was looking for value appreciation for bullion prices today, I would personally get the 2012 Somali elephants at bullionmoney for less cost than the Armenian arks. The elephants do have a history of some appreciation for the earlier years.

The following website says mintage is 5,000 but I think that is incorrect - I think they are unlimited like the koalas.

Armenia is quite a small country so i was wondering if:

    1) These coins are minted in Armenia using Armenian mined silver.
    2) These coins are minted in Armenia using Russian (or another countries) silver.
    3) These coins are minted in another country (eg Germany, Russia) on behalf of the Armenian govt.

I think the main takeaway is that there is now another mint offering a full range of legal tender coin sizes - more sizes in the range in fact than the Perth Mint.

They are minted in Germany by a private mint contracted to the Armenian Central Bank. The mint sources the metal directly from LBMA accredited refiners (obviously a lot easier to do in Europe).

That's only $35.50 a coin for 200. Compares to PM Kookaburras at $38.46 each for the same quantity.

Interesting. An Armenian mint? Any details on it, history, etc.? I can't seem to find anything much online.
