Just thought of sharing about some modern China circulation coins that are very in demand recently, inside China.

    1. Dealers and collectors are busy buying pre-1980 1 and 2 Fen Aluminium coins. It is quite hard to find pre-1970 (except 1956) in MS66 or higher.

    2. Great Wall coins (1980 - 1986) are gaining popularity. The key date is already too expensive for most collectors.

    3. 1980 - 1986 proof mint set. These are among the best (and one of the safest) investment for people who can afford to buy.

    4. 1992 - 2000 mint set are said to be very good long term investment items. Price are really cheap at the moment.

Recently I spent a lot of time in various coins forum in China. Interestingly I don't find too many "good" news in the MCC or even the old coins. There are some positive discussion about banknotes (yeah! I love banknotes too) but the most passionate discussion were on the coins mentioned above.

The Fen coins collector prefer NGC. PCGS seems to gain a bad name after one of their lead grader was alleged to grade his own coin (though PCGS has officially denied the allegation.)

Anyway NGC is said to be very tough on grading Fen coins recently.

Hi low, thanks for the post... which sets are you referring to here? Inventions and discovery types for example? Silver, gold?

    Hi 25Grizzlies,

    Happy that you ask. :)

The mint set refer to one of this:

    http://search.ebay.com/170849329148 (1992)
http://search.ebay.com/400266338058 (2000 - said to be the key set)

This 1998 set is very affordable. I think I can afford one set.

    http://search.ebay.com/170849329148 (1981 - good investment)
    http://search.ebay.com/400266338058 (1982 - currently on auction)

The 1986 is the rarest set with mintage of 660. Not sure about the market price, but I guess about $20000.00

This 1981 2 jiao is said to be one of the better date. In current market it is probably easier to sell if it is NGC MS66.
