I am a sucker for "value adding" and so ,when this rolled across my path ,I had to buy it :)

From an eBay seller who specialises in coin rings and such.
Two 1966 50s delicately hammered into hemi-spheres and joined together..about 15 mm diameter..buffed to shiny perfection. The joining is a bit wonky ,but it is a hand made product.

I applaud the ingenuity and the cottage industry feel behind it.His ebay store if you wish to peruse http://stores.ebay.com.au/alpinecollectables/

My understanding of the legality is that these are not legal tender coinage anymore...only of interest to silver knobs like us :)

His rings are great ...but I am more a ball guy.

It is a criminal offence under the Crimes (Currency) Act 1981 (Cth) to deface or destroy current Australian currency coins. It is also an offence to sell or possess current coins that have been defaced

1966 50c still is current money

I had thought of shaping a couple of ASEs into a christmas tree bauble but I figured 62g was too heavy for the branches.

Should have done it because they look pretty neat.

Haha yeah the three amigos. Old silver coins can be melted down and made into things as they are no longer used
