Update: Thanks everyone for helping me clear it up, seeming less likely to be anything suspect - just never knew they came with an 'unpolished' finish - my membership to this forum become more valuable with things like this - thank you! :)

    Hi Folks

I received an order the other day from my purchase made during the recent 'dip'.

I got 6 x 10oz Perth Mint Silver Bars. 2 of which, look alot different to the others I have and in the order.

As most of you would you know they are usually polished, shiny and reflective on the face - I have 2 here that are more, brushed and foggy and resemble closer to the back and sides than anything else.

    The logo and numbers are stamped the exact same - so just wondering;

Is this just a different finish, is it common and should I be alarmed?

I waited for my order due to the shortage and thought.... is it posible these bars are being rushed out of the Perth Mint faster and they may have skiped the last 'polishing' step?

If anything can let me know - it would be a great help! (Feeling a bit worried....)

    - SilverJay

EDIT: Okay - so here is a link to the picture, on the LEFT is the 2 I am asking about on the RIGHT are the regular 'shiny kind'. I will say though, the right side ones do look alot more scratched due to the flash of my camera but the left appear the same - hopefully this can give you all an idea anyway

The "polishing" only looks good on the mint photos

    real bars are dirty/scratched as!

    Photo might help!

Perth Mint does buy back too, so your bar might be one of those.

    Again...photos!

But they still resemble a mirror finish regardless of the nicks and dents - these others are like they have been hit with a steel wool up and down.

A dealer (who is a member of this site) I wont say who - as its not something I want to make into a big deal until I can get it clarified.

I hope this is the 'new' state of these bars and would feel a little silly (but relieved) if it was - still a newbie stacker as such and just using this site for the great resources that is... :)

I know what you mean - I have the rest of mine polished like yours. I have tried to polish the 'sucpicius' two, thinking it was grit and grime on them- no change however, its an actual finish.

I would need a buffer to get these like the rest of mine which makes me think they missed a step. (Perhaps...)

Thats not fake just brush finish.

You can have brush or mirror finish pm bar.
    Brush finish easy to maintain.

Just like XAG INTRINSIC TENDER PENNY.

Ahk? Never heard of it on Perth Mint 10oz Bars though - it just raised suspicions.

Out of everything I have bought, seen and found on the internet over the past few years I have only ever had a shiny/mirror finish.

Ah well - Im glad I am able to post things like this here and have it sorted before doing worrying any further.

    So false alarm?

Post up a photo. If you got it from a dealer there is pretty much 0 chance of it being fake

My 10oz bar doesn't look anything like the one on the website, or the one posted by Golden Chipmunk.

Though it has passed the weight, dimension and magnet test. Don't have an ultrasonic thickness gauge yet.

You could carry out those tests if you're concerned.

Have you ever heard of Elbow Grease. Rub with it.
Leave it for an hour then polish it again . ;)
Works all the time. Polished finish scratched easily.
    Anyway they looks awesome.
