Did we lose a bunch of posts again today? I saw someone post up about Green label this morning but it's gone now. Maybe they just deleted their post..
Took the 5yo to the local bottle shop to pick up some 2008 vintage .. not to be drunk till she turns 21yo. $643 at Dan Murphy. Told the missus that 3 x 707s 2008 was probably better value but her remark was did the 707 score 100. Obviously the marketing must have worked. Wish it was this easy trying to convince her buying PM's.
Dan Murphy's have got Johnny Walker Platinum (18 years old) for $99 a bottle at moment.....18 years old!
Discovered this little gem last week...thought I'd give some thing new/old a go. Never been much of a rum drinker, but this stuff has no burn... no bones... and no nasty side effects. It's not over-proof.... just standard alcohol content but it's been finished in old port and sherry barrels. Because there's none of that regular burn, you can drink it straight (I'm not kidding) you can taste the sweet mollasses flavours and pick up subtle citrus, honey, caramels, coffee and watermellon. Do yourself a favour... it's the way we all should've been introduced to rum.
http://www.onestopbarshop.com.au/sp...irits-turbo-500-still-t500-9421004737839.html Get a still, stack a heap of sugar and yeast and make your own basic spirit. You can flavour that with anything.
Got one and they are the duck's nuts,(Thanks Nugget) just about to run another 50 litres of wash through (Monday) and will get at least 8 Litres of >98 % alcohol which will give me around 15 litres of >50 % beverage, basically Vodka. Cost all up for that is about $120 dollars at most, an essence cost's another five or six dollars a litre if I want to make a Rum Bourbon or Whiskey or whatever and a $10 bag of wood chips if I want to get all sofistimicated go's a long way. A lot of the stuff I make is smoother than your retail gear and you don't wake up with a throbbing head despite the increased alcohol content after a good night, I've currently been experimenting with coffee liqueurs by reducing black coffee made with local tablelands beans to a thick syrup and adding it with sugar to a 55% alcohol base and I swear it's up there with Patron XO Cafe tequila and for a fraction of the price. The Vodka is my favourite, clean as a nuns and you can put it in the most expensive shelf bought bottle you can find and no-one would know the difference, a few tahitian lime leaves in a bottle for a bit of zing over ice or mixed with soda water while watching the rod tips is a good way to spend an afternoon and cheap as.
I used to distill my own alcohol for years and its great fun to experiment with different flavours. Of course, if you want, essences are an easy alternative and some make great spirits. My biggest problem brewing my own was my alcohol consumption went way up. I've still got my still although I haven't used it for probably 5 years. Not to say I won't use it again especially if a SHTF scenario comes along. It's a fun hobby, the government gets sweet FA taxes off my alcohol and its cheap as chips. In fact, I may have to dust it off.......
This latest tip from Ralfy on how to mature whiskey yourself SUPER FAST (i.e. within hours)...table-top mini-casks & "inverted maturation"!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zRkoT6nFu0&feature=c4-overview&list=UUp0k3OKqfkPW0HdRLA8JWZg
Long time between post's here, had a nice holiday in between looks so sorry for the long delay in reply. Nope piece of piss really, just knock up your favourite brew, I use about ten cups (I drink coffee man style in a mug) and then just reduce it the same way you would juices from a roast for gravy, IE put it in a saucepan and simmer it on a low temp until the water evaporates off, I chuck in a half cup of brown sugar because I like brown sugar but you could just as well use white sugar if that is more to your taste. Simmer it all down until you get a syrupy but thin liquid and then add it to 750 mm of 50-60% alcohol base in a litre bottle then add I add a liqueur base to fill the rest of the bottle, you can get this from your local brew shop or just knock one up yourself by adding sugar to hot water in a bottle and shaking it until it becomes thick. Play around with the mix until you get it to your personal taste, more or less coffee, more or less sugar etc. Good Luck.
It's a small world M8...Didn't know you were in the game..A stacker of vodka, who would have thought? Regards Errol 43
