I feel that we should rather get rid of those who contribute nothing to society - like dole bludgers - pretty much everybody who voted for either Labor or Greens.
They're a threat to the liberty of every other hard working person

My suggestion is to simply subtract $100 000 for every single assylum seeker on every boat which leaves the shores of Indonesia. That will certainly be plenty of inspiration for them to stop colluding with the people smugglers and actually do something about it!

Have you travelled on a very fast train, or even the Eurostar and TGV in Europe? They don't stop just anywhere, they are only for large cities. If you aren't in Newcastle whatever slow means you currently use to get to Newcastle airport you would still need to use to get to Newcastle VFT Station. And that is even if it gets a VFT station, as unlikely as that is. You're not going to just walk down to Singleton and Maitland station and hop on expecting to be in Melbourne CBD in three hours. AND I believe, logistically, it is highly unlikely you're not going to have to sit in Sydney and change trains for the run to Melbourne. Just like I imagine you do now while flying?

Don't know what costs of a Bullet train ticket is in Japan but in Europe I've found it's no cheaper to take the premium TGV-type trains in compared to flying. You can't take the one premium fast train from Paris to Berlin, you need to change trains numerous trains OR take one regular Intercity (ICE) train in cattle class. Or you can fly cheaper and direct via a dozen airlines. I used to have a romance for trains and learned quickly while travelling in the UK that it is far easier and cheaper to fly in the UK than rely on the train - even the supposedly fast journey between London and Edinburgh on the fastest lines in the UK takes half the day.

If the free market thought it could make money on VFT in Australia we would already have it.

And that would be a lot of duplicated infrastructure annoying the farmers whose land would have to be compulsorilly purchased/demanded to place the lines.

Dear M8..I'm in this group..Don't take my vote off me...I am on side with young people who have been screwed by the old banksters and poiticians... In 200 years time generations will mean nothing when reviewing history, those people who lived in 2000 to 2050 must have got it terribly wrong. :)

    Regards Errol 43

I think many of those under 30 are easily influenced by the socialist/green rhetoric of "one world, spread the wealth, save the whales" BS.

Once they grow up, have a couple of kids, get a mortgage and start working hard they quickly realise the folly of socialism and vote for the LNP.

You know what is harder? Working hard and giving a solid portion of your income to the government, most of which goes to welfare.

Oh you mean like the people that worked hard for and paid the taxes that built the road's, hospitals, communications networks, funded public schools, Medicare funds, the armed services and basically everything you see around you in the country today ? The sort that fought wars and made Australia what it is today with hard work, blood, sweat and tears ?

So some snivelling little shit who doesn't know how fucking lucky they are to live in such a country can whinge and whine like a petulant little girl about short sightedness? Look around you M8, how do think everything you see got to where it is ? Take a look around your worksite some time and see where all the know how is. Take a look at the majority of small business owners and their age, The people who own and work the farms, the shop owners, the transport drivers, Your parents.

It didn't just happen in some twenty something's wet dream one night, and it sure as hell doesn't happen in an office somewhere in Canberra. It happened because people worked hard for it, for themselves and for their families just like their parents did. They were once young people who once upon a time when young got a job or learnt a trade for a shit wage and then became better at it or moved on to what they were better at or came up with better ways of doing things, They then went on to get older as they did so, made mistakes, learnt from them and moved on under much harsher conditions than you know now.

Thing is they still vote (thank god), they have experience and dirt under their nails, own business' themselves and employ others, they know the ropes and what works for them and what doesn't. Our society and country is what these people you accuse of being selfish have created, and in my mind I think they deserve the freedom to place their vote any where they damn well wish without, the wet behind the ear, yet to still raise a child, see a recession, know real hardship, or move out of home vote criticise them.

I normally wouldn't waste my time responding to such a post in any length but I know from reading a few of your post's that you do actually sweat for a living unlike many who make similar comments. I've spent a fair few years in civil works, subdivisions, roads and pipe laying with many days on a shovel and laying concrete so I know what it's like first hand and I also know that there are a whole bunch of over 50's still working that industry that have no interest in being there apart from their own necessity, would you really want to see them older guys out of a job ?
If so, should they then get the pension ?
