Watch from about the 3:35 (3 minute 35 seconds) mark. Watch what Drogo the Khal/chieftain does to give the blonde man a 'golden crown'. "Viserys Targaryen's Golden Crown" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VOzFl3kiuU Its a clip from an HBO medieval/fantasy series called 'Game of Thrones'.
The audio books are excellent. The first 3 especially. I have been enjoying the tv series as well though.
Have to say they have done a realy good job on the tv "Game of thrones", George RR Martin new book is out in July "Dance with Dragons".
i remembered thinking at the time that the amount of coins he threw in the pot versus the amount of molten metal that it melted into seemed disproportionate. Also wondered if you'd be able to melt gold just over a fire like that and how quickly it would have solidified. It's like a medical person watching ER and trainspotting all the errors in the show. Stacking has ruined my life
I've yet to watch this but hear everyone raving about it... now its been mentioned on stackers it must be worth watching
Gruesome. In 53BC the Roman general Crassus was captured by the Parthians. He was reputedly an incredibly greedy and wealthy man, and the Parthians symbolically killed him by pouring molten gold down his throat until his bowels burst. Which I think would be worse than having it poured on your head (for the first few seconds at least - after that it'd be much the same). Sometimes fiction is based on truth!
