I bought 2 different 9 ct medallions from separate sources.
These two examples was purchased from a bullion dealer
Both of them were tested on different brands of XRF machines at different dealerships
Both hallmarked 9 ct, however their fineness shows up much higher than expected when tested.
Just puzzled why its purity is around 11 ct and not 9 ct.

I bought a 9ct medal a while back engraved date early 1900's. Will try and get it tested next time I'm in Melb.

It might be a legal thing, if you say 9ct you had better be 9ct or better but not worse.

Also could be plated or the medals were originally made from mixed old gold. Or it could've just been a miscalculation! Well done on scoring some extra gold!
