How quick was the driver in his response? I imagine that they deliver quite a few number of parcels each day, if he knew exactly which house & parcel you were talking about I would be pretty suspicious. I'd expect his response to be something like, "which street? Hang on.. let me look that up... ummm.. and an apartment block you said? .. what size parcel was it?" etc

I'd also put a note in everyone's letterbox. Maybe suggest someone may have accidentally taken the parcel and you would like it returned before you get the police involved.

 

^^^ True. A bit hard to keep as a private discussion when one party posts a thread about it. Of course there will be some arguments... this is SilverStackers, you could post a picture of a puppy and before too long people would be angrily fighting about something or other. :lol:

 

I believe that you may be able to get a package held at your local post office these days, without the need for a PO box.

Has anyone have experience with this / can explain the process involved, so that others can hopefully avoid issues like this in the future.


PS Sorry to hear about you situation OP - I have been scammed out of ~$1500 myself by someone on gumtree. It sucks - I hope that you get a happy ending to this story though.

 

Auspost has completely gone to shit as of late, they are a disgrace. Postman keeps leaving notes as our letter box has sharp edges and it's dangerous. It's been there for years and years and suddenly it's dangerous. Now the moron leaves the mail in the top shelf of the of box where news papers go, so I have to collect my mail from all across the front lawn and on the road everyday.

For what it's worth I always take a photo of the addressed and sealed package followed by a photo of the receipt with tracking number.

 

My postman on the other hand is great and always goes above and beyond - might have helped that we always say hi to him and my kids gave him some chocolates at xmas

I think most of them are like most of us, overworked and underpaid. But like any profession there are always bad apples.

 

Try and stay positive - you never know it sill might turn up. Just make sure you do whatever you can by way of investigation/asking the neighbours etc.

Don't know your circumstance, but I know it feels like a lot of money. I remember when I was 21 and got screwed out of $10k it hurt like hell. Give it some time, work your butt off and learn from this you will get through this rough patch fine.

The OP probably not interested in your squabbling no matter who started it. Since we are in the sidelines let's keep it to moral support and some ideas of what he can do.

Plus $2200 is not a small sum.

Just my two cents

 

Just as a word of caution for everyone there is a unit complex above my business premises and I see the local postie leave parcels that are too big to go through a letterbox slot in plain sight in a public area visible to people walking along a main shopping strip. Sometimes I see multiple parcels for several apartments in a pile in plain sight where anyone can pick them up. He even left two parcels for my business 2 meters from an outdoor cafe seating area OUTSIDE the security gate where anyone could literally lean down and pick them up.

Never, ever trust Australia post with a parcel unless you can afford to lose it, signature or not. The ONLY way to receive parcels with Aust post is if you have a PO box or if you live in a place where you personally know the postie.

 

Hi JulieW - just a thought: if you went online with your PC to check the delivery notice, your browser history may have the item number.

Yes, I already mentioned this. The service is called Parcel Collect. Has been working well for me.

 

I realise that, and thankyou, but thought there was also a way you could simply address your mail to be delivered to your local PO, ie Mr XYZ c/o ABC LPO etc, but havent been able to find any more information on it.
