Hey guys I purchased $2200 worth of gold coins (4 x $200 pride of Australia UNC gold coins) on this forum from JulieW with free post. The item was marked as delivered and after no sign of it for a couple of days I got in contact with the postman who delivered the item and he told me he slid it under the front gate of a 20 apartment complex where all residents frequent. Needless to say the package is gone. After I explained to JulieW what had happened she claimed she sent it signature on delivery which aus post have no record of (is it just me or is it insane to send a $2200 package without at least signature on delivery?) anyway currently I'm $2200 out of pocket. What are my best options from here I would really appreciate your help because at the moment I'm not feeling the best I'm not a very big wage earner so $2200 is a very big hit for me

Holy shiz!! Slid it under the gate of an appartment? Thats crazy. Does your appartment have security cameras, so u could look at old footage?

The front gate that everyone drives and walks in to get into the complex absolutely crazy stuff my mind was blown when he told me my mind was equally blown when I found out it wasn't sent signature on delivery. I was transferred to the postie by aus post so the call was recorded. Surely that is a breach of duty of care/ aus post procedures?

I've had a few things delivered over the past few months with signature on delivery and the clown has left it out the front with no one home. Their device has turned to shit over the past couple years.

Can you put up a notice to your neighbors where it was left saying if the package is returned within 48 hours you wont get the police involved..

i hate to say it but your probably SOLJWF. I hope it does turn up. maybe you could door knock your complex. it's only 20 doors. Highly recommend a PO box, people shouldn't be having things sent to their home address. Auspost will not insure metals and will wipe their hands of it. Good luck, I feel bad reading high value items going missing. I'm not sure if the postie could be held accountable or not. It does reek of irresponsibility.

It's a bit late to be too be told that you need a PO box, but you need a PO box. You can't go blaming others when it's your end that is not secure.

I use Parcel Collect service. Probably as secure as a post office box and doesn't cost anything. Haven't had a problem so far (touch wood).

Is there any evidence that Julie requested signature on delivery? Seems a case to be made against Aust Post if possible.

I find it very hard to believe that a decent member of this forum who joined almost 6 years ago would not send such an amount without SoD at the very least. Has she checked her receipt?

Any chance there's CCTV in your complex?

If I was in the police force I'd help him file a police report and deal with it professionally and not abuse a potential victim. We don't know the full story yet though.

Aust Post now do provide a mail box... I think is free
Can pick up at your local postal shop... the details

It had been told long time ago.... Does anyone bother to read????
    Until it happened.

Also as a seller, I do recommend P O Box or something similar
Anything above $300 , I recommend with signature....

And everthing is double wrapped and at least put them in a carton box

If it requires signature, you will have to collect from local LPO and they will leave a collect card.

That's the confusing part! No postman would or should do that so either someone is lying about what happened or the postman is completely incompetent.

at my place the postman NEVER leaves a collect card. He just dump the package at the post office without telling me. I have to contact the sender and find out via tracking number that its at the post office
