2013 has proven to be a popular year for the ATB 5 Ozers. Both Bullion and collector editions are close to selling out. The 2014 are ALL strong. Combine those strong designs with 5 well known and popular destinations and 2014 is shaping up the be a banner year for the issue. Source:coinnews.net Great Smoky Mountains National Park of Tennessee Shenandoah National Park of Virginia Arches National Park of Utah Great Sand Dunes National Park of Colorado Everglades National Park of Florida The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is very popular. This coin will start the year off with a bang and may sell out the fastest of any coin to date. The Everglades will close the year off in similar fashion.
Thank you for the heads up on the 2014 releases....they look to be spectacular sculpted designs. I certainly have them all on my to buy list. I just hope prices stay very low so that i can buy more than my usual 1 of each (financials this year for me have been very rough). The Shenandoah looks particularly appealing. .

Wow...some of those designs not chosen are marvelous too. Still, the chosen designs are terrific and I can't wait to see them up close in 2014. .
I've knocked up some images with the winner surrounded by the losers. Makes it nice and easy to see them all. If you click each picture they get quite big and you can see much better detail. http://agaunews.com/america-the-beautiful-national-park-designs-for-2014-selected/
Thanks, very nice and interesting to see the styles that were not selected. I agree, best set of designs yet. Wonder if they are using or considering a different batch of designers/artists than in earlier years?
Nice work AgAuNEWS! I am very partial toward wildlife on coins. Unfortunately, many of the coins from the European Mints depicting wildlife on them are terrible designs. The ATB 5 oz coins that would have been my fav choice for the green light are the Great Smokey Mountain with the bear and bear cub and the Arches with the lizard...very good depictions/designs. .
I thought the Great Sand Dunes design was about the weakest of the choices in contention and agree the Bear coin was better as well. The Everglades coin is bang on.
The Great Sand Dunes design in the first post is different than the one on agaunews website, which is the design that was chosen?
Why do you think the 2013 releases are selling out so quickly? Is it because silver is priced low or because more people than ever are collecting coins from this series? Could it be that the mintages of some are lower in 2013 than say 2011? Or a combination of these reasons? .
Bound to be mintages. 2011 has huge numbers compared to 2012 and 2013. I'm sure the silver price is a factor, but given the low mintages, not a major one.
yes, Mintage Issues of similar mintage are rising and people are picking up that. Hawaii blew it up. People are paying attention.
There is consensus among many coin collectors and enthusiasts - the ATB 5 oz silver coins are becoming a hot ticket item: http://www.coinweek.com/modern-coin...beautiful-silver-coin-series-gathers-steam-2/ Seems like a great time now, while silver prices are low and before increased demand drives even greater record sell-outs at the US Mint, to buy some or any of the previously released issues. .
Ironically, the ones I ordered from Apmex last year were the low mintage valuable ones, but they all had the same defect. So I sent them back and forgot about the series. It looked like the front of the coins had rubbed against the capsules, so I assumed it was a defect in the capsules used. I wasn't willing to go through the hassle of ordering any more ATB coins. My only ATB coin is a Yellowstone original issue from the mint.
I believe that the US Mint had some quality issues with the bullion coins in the past but apparently the quality has been (much) improved. So, while the bullion coins you received, dccpa, may have had marks, that may have been the norm for those issues and yet they are still fetching very hefty premiums. I think I saw a graded MS69 Volcanoes sell for over $500 on eBay. Or, you can get a set of the 5 coins in MS69 for around $2,500-$3,000: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2012-AMERIC...74?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item5401a4082a I do not own any of the 2012 bullion coins and they too expensive for me to afford now. I wonder if silver dropped to $14/oz if those high value 2012 bullion coins would see a marked decrease in price....I suppose not, they are already achieving semi-numi premiums and their price may no longer be affected by spot in any meaningful way. Too bad, I sure would like to own them. .
