Chinese Coin Forum http://china-mint.info/forum/index.php I'm underwhelmed by the design. Very similar to the last 3 years.
Cool, I've been hangin to see it! Wowaweewa 8 mil for the 1oz silver. Pretty soon the whole supply and demand argument for why pandas are a good investment will be dampened. Do they stick to these mintage figures? Will they just bump them up whenever? Thanks again for the info mate Dan
Yeah, the 8 mil is a huge turn off. Very interested in a 5 oz though---if anybody knows where to get one--please PM me. thanks!
I'm not too disappointed about the design really, not much you can really do with a 40 mm round coin and panda bear(s) that hasn't been done already over the last 30 years. I think they have done everything but have the panda jump off of the coin into your lap. At least it's not the same old lady year after year 2012 Panda mintage numbers do not surprise me at all as I'm sure we could all see where this was going by looking at mintage numbers of 2011. I will probably buy a few 2012's and throw them in the collection then back to collecting older pandas again. Everyone has their agenda, mine will continue to be focused on silver, gold & platinum pandas pre-2005 in all denominations as there is a life time of collecting between these years with the tremendous amount of variations in each year and huge upside potential for these low mintage coins. Going back to the 2012 Silver Panda if these can be acquired for little above spot, I still think that 10 years from now you will have done better buying these than any other "semi-numismatic" coin. One positive outlook is with this huge mintage number, it was derived by high demand which means we have new Panda collectors entering the market which will subsequently drive prices of the older pandas up. As yennus and others have mentioned, everyone is in this for different reasons so the outlook for all varies. In my case stacking bullion is for the long term so I rarely track spot on a daily basis. When it comes to numismatics, sure I like to see coins that I own go up in value every day but the recent pullback in the overall coin market has allowed me to "back the truck up" as I have been scoring huge deals lately. I'm happy with everything about 2012 !!!
Also a new 30th Anniversary Xiamen Economic Zone panda hmmMmmm... Awesome! Edit: BB actually I find the most uninspiring design to be 2010 and 2011. The 2012 looks slightly better imho. Edit2: NOTHING BEATS THE 2009 THOUGH ITS JUST SO DAMN PRETTY
The baby panda looks fat and lazy, I have an instant dislike of him! As Comeaux mentioned, there will now be up to 8mil collectors gunning for the 6mil 2011s.
I prefer to look at it as (up to) 8 million collectors trying to complete sets cramming for 1.5 million 2010s or 600000 2007s Wish I had a few more sheets of 2010 Pandas.
