The mint has just played it safe, essentially rehashing the 2000 dragon design.

    Thank you.

I was going to buy some Perth mint bars of gold and silver but I think that I might wait on the mints door step on the 1st and buy bulk Dragons.

It might be worth it in the long run with everyone wanting one.

So what's the intro date? Anyone know? I called APMEX and they are either ignorant or coy because the sales rep I talked to would say only within a week (this was Wednesday afternoon in the US). My 7 year history with APMEX with about 40 buys and sells isn't getting me any favors at all. First come---

Anyone even know what they will cost relative to spot?

Usually the Lunar coins come out $6-$7 above spot initially and once the "sold out at the mint" sign goes up, so does the premiums. I would think the perth mint will have been telling dealers not to price gouge on the prices, because in reality they could charge $20 over spot and it will still sell out quick.

Because when you think about it, if there is such strong demand and there's an opportunity to price gouge, the mint would do better to sell the 300k themselves at extraordinary prices and reap the gouged prices rather than the dealers getting it. I suspect this was pretty much their motivation for telling those who wanted to buy the entire 30k gold dragons to p!ss off

I hope the PM does lean on Apmex and Gainesville not to raise the premiums. Both companies already have a prior history of jacking up premiums in this type of situation. We shall soon see.

I notice large differences between Apmex's pricing on 2011 Koalas and Kooks with Koalas at a $7 premium and Kooks at $14. That reflects demand. We shall see.

APMEX have all the dragon sized coins up on their website ready to go (minus the pictures) so I'm guessing all the various sizes will be available for sale at the start, taking the pressure of the 1oz's I guess.

I believe 7th of September is the start date for sales so apmex have put their dragon pages up a month early which is pretty darn keen.

I hear August 24th dealers (at least in Australia) will be informed of their allocations.

Looking forward to it. I opened an account at Perth Mint online store, can they be ordered that way?

They can't get more kooks from the PM, but there are always koala available. So, maybe the pricing difference reflects demand or maybe it reflects an unlimited supply of koalas from the PM.

You can get all the proof coins but to get bullion you need to open another account on the bullion part of the site. I think the bullion can only be purchased and picked up. Please correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

Thanks for telling me that, I didn't know it was only for proofs. You saved me from some future headaches :)

Yep, true. www.perthmintbullion.com.au and set up a bullion account - a bit different to the usual coin collector-y type account

But if it's pick-up only, that'll make for a hell of expensive dragons ;)

Purchases from the Perth Mint bullion website can most definitely be shipped.

Really? that's cool. Someone on the previous page had said that it was pick up only, maybe I misunderstood?

BTW, just got my first 2000 1 Oz dragon today, that thing is a beauty!

I bought my 2008 Lunar Mouse coins back in like March directly from perthmintbullion and they were shipped to me. Their shipping + "insurance" is pretty hefty though.
