I quite like the design of the 2012 coin (http://www.royalmint.com/store/BritishGold/UKB12RN.aspx). Where is the best place to get it considering overseas purchases may require GST payment?
They had a few different designs recently. If you order one coin from oversees and stay below the $1000 threshold no GST payable
Downies are selling the 2012 sov and half sov locally. https://www.downies.com/australia/store/product.asp?id=6949 I've got one on order as a Chrissy present for myself
I saw the 2012 full sov proof yesterday - Sold out - now selling for GBP750 in UK! http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-2012...LL-SOVEREIGN-COIN-BOX-COA-STOCK-/150675186504 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2012-ROY...N-GOLD-PROOF-5-COIN-SET-BOX-COA-/400263499012 And whilst I'm here these were nice too (!): http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2009-PIE...PROOF-16-COIN-STILL-MINT-SEALED-/150624594557 (mintage of 40!) Blimey...
Anyone got the Diamond Jubilee Limited Edition Sovereign? It was struck on 02 June 2012, limited mintage of 2012 with special diamond jubilee packaging and hand signed COA. Here is a youtube clip I made of the coin:
Wonder if signing a COA by hand really makes it more valuable unless the Queen herself signed it. Boxes are cheap. The prices charged by the Royal Mint are outrageous, like a cup of tea in Harrods.
I think the presentation of the coin was really well done by the Royal Mint. I dont disagree about general outrageous pricing but since the design of the sovereign was changed to commemorate the diamond jubilee year, I do believe this limited edition will be worth even more to a collector in a few years time. Was 71 pounds more than a stock standard sovereign, I dont think it was too bad an investment.
Just priced this boxed coin from the Mint at 450. Take the coin out of its box and it looks exactly the same as my BUNC versions, also sold for a bit less, maybe 71 less as you say but my comment relates to the "over-pricing". I paid 259 which is 30% less so that's the huge markup for small collectors. I have been looking out for fair priced half sovereigns, 2012, but my sources will not touch them because they are currently grossly over priced. The Mint is becoming greedy or perhaps testing the market ? As for investment value I would not be holding my breath.
Bullion by post are doing a deal on the Jubilee Sovereign. 466.00 for a Full, Half, and Quarter Sovereign.
Just looked and now 469. If you bought 100 of each of the 3 coins the average set price would be 460 so paying only 9 more for one set seems a good offer. Considering Special Next day delivery is included in this price I am tempted !
