The 10 coin set is still available at the mint's website. This is it, dragon mania is over.....

The Perth mint killed the dragon with this crazy number of dragon coins in 2012.

I love band wagons but this was one set too far for me...

Hopefully they will be selling them all for bullion prices when the snakes come out.

$1k is currently a lot of money to fork over for what ultimately is only 10 ounces of silver. If I were splashing out 1,000 turtles I'd be looking at buying a kilogram of silver or 20 individual bullion coins and a 10 ouncer for fun.

Remember how fast the 9 coin set (Chinese release) was selling? Price was over $2000 on ebay when released. Now nobody cares for them... Strange.
I picked up a set and quite sure it will pay off relatively fast.

You must be kidding? It's been for sale for almost 72 hours and you are calling it a flop because they haven't sold out?????????

I think this is a little bit of an over reaction.

Maybe not a flop but certainly not as much excitement as there has been for the High Relief or the Original Bullion 1oz.

The price isn't that out of line with what similar items have been going for, but all in one go? Makes you think twice about buying them.

If they had released a single colour each month for $100 then people would be selling their relatives to get them, staying up all night to grab them as soon as they became available online. Buying overpriced display boxes to keep the whole collection in, that kind of crazyness!

But after the Chinese set, people saw that as an opportunity to get something not available in Australia, then they brought it out here anyway.

I like the coins but not enough to shell out all that cash for them, which is odd because I buy a lot of rubbish generally!

There's plenty of time left in the Lunar year. They could have released one a month (or whatever it works out to be) and people would have been all over it. I'm building a series II Lunar gilded and bullion set. There's no way I would buy the coins in one hit nor could I afford to. However, one coin a year? Yeah I can do that.

The only way to make money out of the coloured sets now would be to break them up and piece them out coin by coin but even then you have to sell each coin at $100 just to get your money back. I like the coloured coins and if they were $50 or $60 tops I might buy some but not at $100ea.

I take my words back... It is now unavailable at the Perth mint. Took a little longer than I expected.
Anyway, I picked up a second set yesterday before it was sold out.

^^^ Doesn't always mean they are "sold out". Sometimes they will add more stock at a later date.

I find it a bit odd that the OP says the Perth Mint killed the dragon with overkill of items available. I think the people calling the suppliers, distributors and the Perth Mint carry just as much of the burden of blame for all the pre-hype they themselves created. Can you really blame them when people are knocking on thier door for a year before the release of an item, if they take the item to the max of its potential. I actually don't believe it's overkill, just filling what the market will bear, and right now it's bearing everything they make plus some.

... (putting on flame shield) ... have to agree ... most of the dragon coins (from around the world) have been selling out - and it's quite amazing the variety of designs that have all been approved and produced over the last year - from an artistic point of view it seems unprecedented - if you like silver coins there's going to be at least one dragon coin from this year that you are going to really like (may be too expensive but can still enjoy the design) and that's what can make this year a really enjoyable one

    p.s.
For those saying the dragon coins are corrupt/too expensive/mints too greedy ... can't totally dissgree, but will say paying $100 for a 1 oz silver coin that you really like (of high quality) is a heck of a lot cheaper than the $ and time it would take to setup and make a similar coin on your own
