I recently purchased some 2011 silver Canadian maple coins.. Initially I thought the background looked too frosted and no sign of those feint vertical lines that is typical of newer silver coins.. but then I weighed one and it came in at 30.64g.. Quite underweight.. the detailing looks good, but it is a little frosted.. I have always understood the ping of a silver maple to be duller than most coins, but this is an extremely high pitching.. very clean long pitch.. I did the magnet test and at first I thought the magnet was a bit quick, but later thought the magnet liked to stick slightly to the coins edge.. does this sound typical of a fake.
can you take a better photo, Front and back. But going by the image you have, it doesn't look right. Sorry it might be a fake, hope you didn't buy many.
Hard to say without better photo, but I don't think it is a Chinese counterfeit. Yours is closer to looking legit than the China fakes. Could be a higher quality fake than what was going around back then. Is your scale accurate? https://www.fakebullion.com/index.p...011-canadian-silver-maple-1-ounce-silver-coin
I did a better compare and sorry to say but it's 100% fake. Also the surface of the coin is wrong, it should look more brushed metal. Use www.apmex.com as a reference source, as they have a massive database of high quality images of every coin out there. Also i have a Maple sitting on my desk, so it's was an easy spot for me.
It was the actual finish I didn’t like.. it’s a dull matte rather than a brush striping.. plus the magnet I had could literally hang off the edge of the coin if you did it carefully.. but for a new coin to be nearly 1 and a half grams light.. doesn’t add up.. the coin is nice.. but I don’t think it’s legit.
Looking at one of my maples, the stalk is perfectly centred between the "1" and the "OZ" which it does not appear to be on your coin. Unfortunately I'm with Leo on his assessment.
Thanks Barney.. I’m giving him the option to recompensate me.. I bought from an eBay seller.. the guy put in the descrOption that he had a receipt from a reputable dealer that come with the coins, which he never sent.. I’m probably going to have to go through the procedures to get my cash back.. I’ve not long been collecting either..
If you are new you should never use ebay, as there are way to many fakes. Ebay is only ok once you know what to look for. Don't let some people scare you in thinking fakes are hard to spot, as once you know its VERY easy to tell. Start off with places that are Official Distributors like www.perthbullion.com They are cheaper too. What state are you from? Maybe we can suggest some good local places too.
hence why millennials don't like gold and silver? who can blame them? How do we know the CB's don't have fake bars? Maybe all the gold in their vaults are fake? Crypto here we come. I think this site should be renamed, 'cryptostackers.'
Sword Art Online come to mind the way to win the game is to use crytos to buy maple is fake, the surface area is without lines
