I was perusing Apmex to check on the availability of certain coins and saw that they are taking orders for the 2011 gold and silver Pandas. The pictures are terrible, but the coins may be great. I cannot remember how to post a picture right now, so I am providing the links and someone else can show the photos. http://www.apmex.com/Product/59982/2011_1_oz_Silver_Chinese_Panda___In_Capsule_Jan_12th.aspx http://www.apmex.com/Product/59976/2011_1_oz_Gold_Chinese_Panda___Sealed_Jan_12th.aspx
The new design carries the same theme as earlier modern series, interesting that the have gone back to the plain carpet look on the reverse. The images are lousy better ones here & thanx to Pandacollector http://www.pandacollector.com/
I'm waiting to actually see the coins before I'm sure the carpet decoration has been dropped. The advance photos in previous years have sometimes been considerably different than the coins themselves. Best wishes, Peter Anthony http://www.pandacollector.com
Oh yes, and with 3 different mints, we could effectively end up with mintage of only 1 million for each variety and if the distribution is uneven, we could end up with very high premium for the rarer ones. By the way, is that the carpet? I've always thought it's stone sculpturing.
I think the images released are slightly different for anti counterfeit reasons. It doent give the fakers lead time before release to start their own production. I think the pandas came of age in 2009 where the current theme of upper and lower chords and central scene started. I'm glad they have stuck to this. I plan to get a few 2009 specimens and will get the 2011 also. I'll collect from this series onwards ie 2009-
That "style" is commonly referred to as "shit quality" but I suppose you could look on the bright side and call it "retro". You don't happen to be a former landlord of mine, do you?
I would love the "shit quality" to be thrown into my collection if anyone can't wait to rid them. I do like such imperfection on modern day coins. Perfectly struck coins take out the joy of collection.
Yes, it is stone sculpturing and I should call it that. It just reminds me of a carpet. Best wishes, Peter Anthony http://www.pandacollector.com
For me, the designs from 2000 on have mostly been outstanding. Based on the photos the 2011 adult bear looks less playful than in some other years. Maybe he or she got tired thinking about how many coins need to be made! Best wishes, Peter Anthony http://www.pandacollector.com
Not unless you inhabited the backstreets of Bondi in the late Eighties early Nineties ? Isn't that where all expat K1W1's wash up ! This is good !
