    Wow 2012 3 coin set $1k on feebay... I thought getting $900 was already a win.

    Seems like it's the only dragon from the Perth Mint so far that hasn't flopped after the initial pump upwards?

    9 coin - meh
    proofs - ~$230 from the original $400+
    color proofs - duds
    the China 5oz/1oz golden ring - duds
    typeset - down from the $800+ to < $550
    4 coin rectangular set - almost back to release price
    gilded - below release price

    I know which snake set I'll be trying to get ;)

    The 3-coin proofs and 1oz proofs are both doing well, even though 1oz proof prices have come down. Also 3-coin sets initially fetched $1200+ on feebay, now down to $1000.

    1oz: $230-odd, initial release price of $107.
    3-coin: $900-1000, initial release price of $400.

    For those that were able to secure a quantity of either at release, 100%+ gain in a few months is still pretty good.

    This time around however, there is only one way to get your 1/2oz or 2oz proof.

    In 2000, you had the 3-coin set and individual 1/2oz and 2oz releases.

    Hate to say "I told you so" (well no I'm not!), but I did say back in September to get only the established annual Lunar releases, dont go near the 1 off stuff the mint released to cash in on dragon mania.

    So every year I only get the 1oz proof and the 3 coin sets. Forget the rest of the numi Lunars. The 4 coin typeset is a touch-and-go buy so better to buy the others.

    Dont buy any Lunar 1 offs like baby dragons, coloured proofs (10k mintage that began just this year, not previous years), 9 coin coloureds, rectangled etc all worth a miss.

    Gildeds, although they have been going for the whole series, have been the perennial underperformer in both the boxed and coin only varieties.

    And after the experience of the bullion and 1oz/3 coin proofs order on the PM site, that was enough to put me off buying the rest. There's better time spent than hitting refresh for 2-3 hours. A workmate bought a typeset. Took 2+ hours on the site to successfully process the order.

    I think it is waaay to early to speculate on what all the dragon coins will do in the future, ebay gets flooded with this stuff then prices fall then everyone thinks they know it all then in years to come ??? who knows . How much were the ser. 1 dragons when they were released ? and knowone cared about those then either, I am sure the brilliant minds here would call them duds after a few months and you would be better off buying stock in GM or, ok maybe pre decimals or something...

    the gilded 2012 dragon since its sell out at perth is making a sort of come back ,you cant touch a gilded 2000 dragon for less than 250.00 ,I don't know what the issue price was but ill bet around 30.00,I think if you have patients with some of this stuff you will be ok,if you want to make the tall money ,you have to be first in and first out,its that simple,but if you take the long view,coins with intrinsic collectible value will outperform silver bullion bars etc IMO ,look at coins like a 2000 mirror panda ,everyone on this board would would like to be holding a couple of 100 of those:) and they where available @ 20 or 25.00 a coin in 2000 today 1500.00 :) a 10 oz bar in 2000 60.00 today 350.......................dont get me wrong I hold bullion, im just quacking:)

    I disagree. You have to be first in and first out AND GET COINS THAT THE PUBLIC WILL ACTUALLY WANT. People have had enough of the various iterations of coloured/gilded/coloured,gilded/coloured,proof/baby etc. 2012 Dragons.

    What silver Dragons did the Perth Mint make back in 2000?
    * Bullion
    * Proof
    * 1oz Gilded (sales of 20,447)
    * 1kg Coloured (sales of 3,404)

    That is it.

    How many flavours did they make this time around? And the mintages? I will leave that an exercise for someone with more time than me. As an example, the 2012 1oz Gilded has a sold out mintage of 50,000.

    I will say that everyone who bought up a heap of non-proof/non-bullion Dragons, wanting to make a quick buck, and now are disappointed with the results .... well .....

    Clownfish to you.

    lol is right.........and sounds like sour grapes too:)....... i didnt say I loved what perth did ,i just was saying if you stashed a couple of gilded dragons held them a while you would be ok, you got one dealer from florida who flooded the market on fee bay with those rectangular sets in the last 2 weeks, but before that they where avg 550.00 to 600.00 not a bad return on a 390 investment in a couple of month,s, so apparantly a whole bunch of folks wanted those rectangular door stops and even at 475/500 (current avg sell price) that is still an ok return.............perth is in the business of churning out coin,s ,you decide weather or not to buy them
