I noticed that soon after the photos were posted in the auction, the price of both "ram-inc-ia" (now $342 USD) & SM's eBay listings shot up rather quickly.

What that truly means, who knows..

From what I've seen, seems to be relatively easy -- if you've got the right equipment.

I've got a couple serialized rounds.

Basically there's a break in the reeded edge, where the # is stamped.

You are correct, both are in fact proofs.

Like those new pictures, I think the coin turned out very nice. I certainly had my doupts after seeing that horrible snake coin but that went away after seeing the mould, looks just like it.

THE MOST POPULAR QUESTION AND OUR ANSWER IS...

"Will you be issuing different sizes and variations of the Ghana 2015 Lunar
Skulls Year of the Goat coin? Will we see 2oz, 5oz, gilded, antique
finish, colorized, gold or other versions in the future?

    AND THE ANSWER IS....
    NO - ABSOLUTELY NOT!

We understand how so many collectors feel jaded and cheated by national and private mints.
We fully understand that issuing more variants after the initial release is NOT how to treat your
good customers and is exactly the wrong way to build a quality reputation. We find it absolutely
insulting that "trusted" mints dilute past mintages by issuing variants and putting re-strikes
on the current market. We will also keep an archive of all past and present issues on the SMmint
website so people can check in there to see what was officially released and the mintage numbers.

In addition, we are also making sure that everyone that gets a coin in hand
will fully understand what was issued and what they are holding:
Each COA will have all variations of the coin listed with mintage numbers. This means that the PROOF and BU versions of this coin will share the same COA but each
certificate will be numbered to reflect the coin you own. This, combined with the numbering on
each coin, PROOF and BU, along with web posted archives will help make sure there is no
confusion about what we released and how many of them are out there.

For instance, if you see third party gilded or colorized versions of this coin,
you can be sure that those are NOT official SMmint products and are
nothing other than a fake or a purposely damaged coin with little collector value.
SMmint is dedicated to our customers and our products, this is our number 1 priority!

    WE APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT
ALL OF OUR 2015 LUNAR SKULLS PROOF COIN CUSTOMERS WILL
AUTOMATICALLY HAVE A RESERVATION FOR THE 1ST ISSUE OF OUR
NEXT SERIES AND WILL ALSO RECEIVE A SPECIAL OFFER.
IT IS OUR WAY TO SAY...
"THANK YOU!"Please see my other listings for more great coins & treasures

265.00 is a far cry from 500.00 or 750. LOL. And the coin isn't even out yet. :) I say these drop below 200.00. :) I coud be crazy...and we shall see. I can't wait to see the 2 I get for free. LOL.

    Poorly-timed auction, on SM's part.

Ended late Christmas Eve / early Christmas Day (US time).. Who does that??

Even Scottsdale had the sense to severely limit their # of listings during Christmas Eve/Day, cut by approximately 1/2 to 2/3rds from their typical historical rates.

The proof listing prior to that, which ended a few days before SM's, went for $342 USD -- which ended *after* the photos had already come out.

So which is the "true" price -- $265? $342? Take an average of the two?

I don't think anybody here claims this thing should be selling at $500 - $750.

My prediction made much earlier in this thread was it hitting $300+ ... and who knows what happens after that. That much has come true. I don't claim to know now where this is headed in the next month, 12 months, 12 years.. Way too many variables. Though I think odds are it will do just fine over the long term -- at least for the earlier buyers of both versions. The BU may also be a bit of a sleeper, especially once the 2K batch is sold out, and if these come out even better than expected, in terms of quality & appearance.

This gets more bizzare , if the counterfeits get in the market before the genuine ones, Geeze ,
Im sure the Government of Ghana is really upset about it Ha!

    Everywhere...simultaneously
How good can a fake be if they don't have a real one in hand to make a mold from or scan to make a cast from??? The fake coming to market before the real one...this is rather bizarre.

That is very strange indeed. They can't possibly be any good they probably would have had to freehand it going off the sketch image they we were all given. Its amazing how quick they were to counterfit this one.

It looks like they have just used pictures published by Son-Montuno. They probably haven't produced any coins at all yet, or the actual ones look nothing like the stolen pictures.

Perhaps they are waiting to get an authentic coin in hand and are selling Preorder counterfits :p

The fakes are listed as BU and not proof so I am in the clear for now!
