Hi I was wondering if anyone has an opinion as to whether this coin has been cleaned? Im specifically looking at the obverse around the 'one penny' and the two dots either side of the '1925'.

Also wondering what people would grade this coin. I was thinking maybe aEF as the third and fourth pearls appear slightly worn, although still raised and seperated. There are also a few minor detracting marks (rim bumps and contact marks) maybe.

Interested to hear what people think as Im really a complete novice and tend to go of what I read on the net.

    Cheers

    I know that background,
coin is cleaned, picture has been taken in a way to hide the fact but I guarantee you now that coin does not have natural surfaces.
    Pity it had great details!

Hmm I thought so when I bought it, but wasn't 100% sure and the price was such that it was worth the risk. And your right they do seem to have taken the shot in a way that tries to hide the cleaning. In the hand it is a little more obvious. But yeah the detail is great compared to others out there. Bit of a shame really.

    Thanks for the input!

you can carry it in your pocket for 6mths then give it 10 years to retone then you may get an au55 grade on it depending on how badly cleaned it was

    Is it different in Aus?

Yes, I'm sure the OP meant around "One Penny" on the reverse.

i think you have a keeper mate,
has the eight pearls clearly defined , look up the guide to grading commonwealth coins on the net.
i would get it professionally graded if it was mine.
