got you - yeah should be a wild ride. dual citizenship is great hedge -- best of luck to you. i am AU fan and visit frequently [also other countries where citizenship is attractive - who knows ] <side rant>: hopefully some meaningful, positive change in US can rise from these ashes. my read on US: people are pretty angry but generally confused, lacking clear direction and leadership. there is much potential in US, it has been shameful to witness such deterioration in my lifetime. optimistic scenario is rise of new generation of patriots - largely youth - interested in supporting broad goals in service of nation and society. ie more social contract, protection of liberties ... less antisocial behavior and bullshit consumerism. people may not get to buy the new car/bigger house/big tv etc. perhaps instead they can read shakespeare, have a conversation with their neighbor, participate in political process or at least vote, exercise, etc. from personal experience, quality of life is a function of mindset equally/more than it is function economic measures/living standard. admit there is a large segment of population who lack ability/circumstance to think in these terms yet. this can be solved - not by the political class as exists now - but through empowerment, and broad voluntary social support. i have seen this work at community level and wonder if it can scale. perhaps this is hopelessly naive & i have simply overmedicated this morning. of course i also fear the opposite case: power is abused, fragile people are manipulated not liberated, everyone-for-self mentality dominates, psychological warfare by marketers, etc. but certainly we do not face a zero-sum situation -- and we may reverse the shameful trajectory of recent generations. lets hope for renaissance in US and elsewhere. hopefully without a war machine bullshit </rant ... forgive me i know i am new here> cheers -bene
Yes I'd stay with gold if migrating. Check the rules on what you can take out of USA and what you can bring to Aust and go the max. You cam always sell here on SS and get a better price than coin shops I dare say. I'd stick with easy to sell gold - eagles, maples as ounces. Many say gold will be 1700-2000 by year end (some say 1100) so if you're not comfortable fiat may be your choice. Personally I'd go the gold.
Given the recent run up in silver, I would also buy gold. 100-150 ounces of silver wouldn't be too bulky, but the buy-sell premium difference on silver is much higher than for gold. Can you not open an account in AU before you move there?
I am not a citizen yet, should be in couple months. Ah, super idea I believe people will evolve but I think they will have to suffer in an age of turmoil before they learn, they will have to lose a lot, and retuning to a good normal will take 10-20 years. One important thing is to put less faith in politicians. I dont believe in voting, the political system is pure crime, there is nothing good about it. Yes, I think things will change when people choose voluntarism.
Great comment on ABC TV's "Insiders" this morning, "what happens if the AUD drops back to US80c and we start paying $2/L for petrol?"
I used to live in Sydney and still drive back every 2-3-4 weeks or so.. I'm such a country bumpkin now...i actually get sweat marks under my arm pits when driving in Sydney..i get so stressed anyway back on topic with USD dollar looking weak, we bought some depreciating assets off Amazon...bargain compared to prices here
In the last 6-8 months, I have "backed up the truck" on books from Amazon. Here in Perth, unless you want a top 100 book, you generally have to get it ordered from " over east" and why would you wait a week to be charged 3 times that of the same book on Amazon.
\ Yes, please tank whilst the exchange rate remains so very favourable to those of us earning AUD. If the exchange rate tanks at the same time as the spot for gold and silver then it'd be my fault no doubt as I seem to have some atrocious luck
my brother told me: wtf@ gold i told him its just AUD tanking... then i checked gold USD and was like
My theory is that: World economy looks bad, resources are not needed,AUD falls. Gold up in AUD. Simple but true,I believe. I get confused if I get too complex. Also ,there was no increase in interest rates. Quote "The Australian Dollar plummeted after remarks made by the RBA weighed on interest rate expectations." http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Swiss-Franc-Tops-Record-Highs-fxcm-3029724446.html?x=0&.v=1
