Yep. Apparently it's why the Dow dropped and gold jumped.

I don't think the president-elect will like it.

So without the silly drone incident, we could have seen low $21 or $20 dollar silver.

The drone was apparently COTS (commercial off the shelf) tech so China probably manufactured most of the components anyway. They may simply be testing the "finders keepers losers weepers" law of international waters.

Is there a 'law of the sea' that allows that? This drone was NOT lost, it was in use at the time and was STOLEN!

My first question was WHY they would do this and take the risk of wounding US/China relations even more. Was it a ships captain that got carried away, or was it a TEST of the new Administration? I was expecting that but not so soon, more after the 20th January.

The PRC backed down rather quickly, and I wonder at that too.

OC, I was kidding about finders keepers. The Chinese obviously acted illegally in stealing the drone.

Why? Who knows, but their militaristic ambitions in the area are clear. The act might even have been for internal consumption, to prop up the weakening legitimacy of the party's rule by showing the people they are "tough" on the evil foreigners in the hope that the Chinese people will will stop moving all their money out of the nation and into foreign currencies and assets as fast as they can (this has been accelerating recently because the people know the Chinese economy is f&cked.)

OK, I do trend to take stuff at face value, and should not!

I am amazed at just how much our peace loving chinese brothers are willing lose in 'face' in all this. Their (operational) tech is many years behind the US and a sea battle would last about half a day in an all out test. The USN could probably put 4x CVN groups with full escort fleets in the SCS in a matter of days.

I wonder if we will see US and allies escorting 'Convoys' through the South China Sea at some point. And I am willing to bet a few stern words have been delivered to Beijing via the US Ambassador.

    We live in interesting times!

just like the USA operational tech was superior to ISIS's and the Viet kong, but yet could not get the upper hand, just like that ay?

Chinese / Russians would be more than a match for the USA in any conflict, again the USA has not defeated any communist-backed army anywhere, EVER.

Really? One second hand carrier and a military with no officer with any warfare experience against the ultimately experienced US navy with 10 carrier strike groups? In a naval war China and its islands would be over in 2 days. the US would never get into a land war with China or Russia
and in a naval conflict the US has no match. Even Russia has only 1 carrier. Russia's only strong naval capability is its subs.

I think this has already been said that America was probing it's enemies defences seeing how they respond maybe even activating any new "surprises" which America would have taken keen notice of planning their counter measures.

This under water drones in the big picture of the American war budget is ZERO.

Also America was acting like a piece of salt rubbed into a wound reminding the Chinese that they are around and are not going away anytime soon.

I will be totally shocked if there is not an incident on the "South China Seas" sooner then later which will be declared "an accident" with both parties kissing and making up if not for economics alone.

    Merry Christ-mas :)

Eventually these two will lop nuclear weapons at each other, unless India / Pakistan does it first.

The Court Fool only shows his ignorance of things military based on his reading of the GLW etc only.

He would be far better advised to keep his mouth shut on things he knows nothing about and only damages his cred.

again proxy wars have been fought between Communist powers and the USA and the USA has LOST every time despite their so called superiority.

That is fact, you ignoring the fact seems to show your ignorance.

hell the usa can't even eliminate a few jihadists hiding in caves using 50 year old weapons against them.
