Not a good year to have paid over the odds, or bought too many. Just seen the numbers. The proof mintages are among the highest for some years. 2016 5oz - 2,750 2oz - 3,950 1oz - 13,250 1/2oz - 13,150 1/4oz - 9,550 1/10oz - 12,650 1/20oz - 12,550
Just looking at my 2011's this morning, 2k mintage and now an extra 750 minted for this year. Pretty hefty % increase. Have you tracked release premiums too by any chance?
Thanks for sharing this. Very useful info. I was thinking to wait to see these numbers and maybe buy some, but now I will most likely pass. I think also that current prices on "reverse proof sets" didn't increase so much as for 2015. It's still a chance though. 2016 some say introduced "new" design of boobs, so that might be good reason to buy.
Afraid i never do make notes of premiums at release. But i do seem to recall prices from dealers were bullish, as was the demand. Probably based on the assumption of the lower mintages of '14/'15 continuing into '16. Should start to see a notable downward price correction for the '16 range in times ahead.
The following link shows mintages thru 2016 for the various Libertads out there, both gold and silver, bullion and proof. 2014 is looking to be a key date for now re the 2 and5 oz silver proofs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertad_(coin)
And 2013 for kilo. If the mintage is increasing it might means that they are also getting more popular.
That's my thought. Even the highest mintages are ridiculously low compared to other Mint's offerings. I see a bright future for the lovely lady.
Libertads are definitely among my favorite "bullion" if not the favorite. I usually prefer is design is changing, but at least you know "what to expect". It's impossible to release every year very cool design, or always "better". I have one graded piece. All graded received either 69 or 70. I think this shows that quality is very good. Well, topless angel, you cannot go wrong!
