If a stranger was in my loungeroom stealing a garden gnome I had there and I had a gun, then yes I would probably pump a round into them.At the very least they would get beat up.Or maybe I could ask them politely to leave after I gave them a cup of tea and a biscuit and made sure they didnt have any hurt feelings about me asking them to leave.

Yes preventable gun deaths, and they have been largely been prevented here in Australia because of the low gun ownership levels due to laws and restrictions that have been put in place. How many cases of people being mistaken for intruders and shot? I can not find one, maybe there has been but it would be a very rare occurance indeed. Do you know the good thing? Things like that are as sad as hell, when people say people will use common sense, why would a kid be running with a loaded weapon, why was the safety off? Where was their dad? Things like that destroy peoples lives, parents and siblings never get over stuff like that.
