Nothing personal, but is anyone else sick of looking at lizzie on most modern day coins we stack? I've been doing a stocktake and now just cant stand the boring ass obverse no matter what rendition they have of her. The other thing is there are some fantastic designs/antique style etc which gives me that olden day feel of real money when I look and hold the coin however when I turn it to the queens side it just ruins the conjured idea..I might just have to move onto bars. Anyone else feel the same?
Nope. The real bright side is that any coin with Charles' head on it will be a limited mintage. It saddens me to think that, unless the RM gets its skates on, they won't get all the beasts out while Liz is still with us.
The Lion will be a hard act to follow. I have both silver and gold versions now, and they're gorgeous. I only bought the silver version because, as a Brit and a new stacker, I thought it was cool to have something British. Then, once I held them and saw how nice they were, I had to have the gold version too. So much for my vow to buy only low-premium stuff......
Interesting. I actually like the profile of the Queen being on the coins (for full disclosure I am a monarchist though) The royal profile adds to a historical feel, being part of an unbroken tradition of king and queens for centuries, unlike modern corporate logos.
I think the law sets out what is on the coinage. And QE2s mum lived to 101 so she may last as long. Then Charles will be a short reign King.
