http://www.citylab.com/navigator/2016/08/italys-birthday-present-to-18-year-olds-500/497057/ This is fascinating. One sure way to implement helicopter money and ensure that it gets spent rather than saved....is to give it to 18 year olds. This scheme also gets identity information on new eligible voters. It's kind of brilliant and abhorrent at the same time. :|
Italy's current youth unemployment rate is ~36%. http://www.tradingeconomics.com/italy/youth-unemployment-rate
This scheme is hardly helicopter money. Supposedly, it would have been public arts/culture funding anyway. Better to let users choose rather than sleazy bureaucrat play 'patron of the arts' with taxpayer's money (i.e. favoring the ballet company over the symphony orchestra because he wants to ogle ballerinas).
How can it be said that the recipients get to choose what to spend the money on, rather than the government, yet at the same time, 'vouchers' are dispensed only if/when the government agrees that the proposed expenditure is 'culturally enriching'? Duh?
The best thing to do is to hand a $900 cheque to all taxpayers. They then go to Hardly Normal and buy a Chinese TV set. OC
Don't worry, the money comes back to Australia.... as political donations. Round and round it goes: http://www.theage.com.au/federal-po...chinese-political-donors-20160823-gqzauy.html
Will we give the $900 to the people? or to the banks? Lets give nothing then we can have a recession! Regards Errol 43
