Hard to say, if someone really keen to buy a 2015 Kangaroo as collection, he/she has to pay high premium price from overseas with extra shipping cost.

Anyway, I believes they will also develop milky spots like their 2016 sisters.

It's by large a matter of personal taste. Personally I like the coins and even the controversy that comes with it. For me it is certainly not only about low mintage, "crappy quality" and to compare it to the croc and other coin issues.

Yeah, those milk spots are a pain in the butt for sure. However, I am dreaming of a day when we will look pass the milk spots at the coins... take it as a "security feature" that's part of business as usual. No milk spots, probably a cheap Chinese rip-off. :D

P.S. I hold nothing against my Chinese friends, but fake coins out of China are a reality!

You're most welcome. You were spot on. :)

In terms of the Perth Mint, I am sure they know the whole 2015 allocation was bought by one buyer. It certainly can't be a secret or fresh news to them.

P.S. Yeah, I am trying to get myself out of the hole now. :p

I remember GP got one or more when he went to a pre coin release in USA , was it a 2015 or 2016?
The US release was before PM, s new kanga facility was open

Personally I think they were minted before PM sourced RCM, s 4 nines silver

I thought the original sample ones were minted from RCM silver, not the 2016 ones?

I still believe the first 4 nines that were sold in US before they went in to production for gen pop were minted in north america on the same 4 nines RCM type blanks but the surfacing of these 3 nines with different desighn would show that PM did a test batch on their own blanks and kept it quiet.

The whole concept of the kanga is lost on a 300k private minted version being out there for sale on the secondary market and a version minted befote the original release.

Wonder what explanation Bron has this time? Lol

Where's this idea that RCM supplies the Perth Mint with 9999 silver come from? Rubbish spouted on this forum?

PM and RCM are in pretty serious competition with each other. The Kangaroos are designed to take market share from Maples and Eagles.

They accept outside blanks for private projects only is my understanding.

makes no sense for a supplier to buy from another supplier...

Makes just as much sense as a mint saying and launching a 2016 dated unlimited mintage coin is a first released desighn of that coin when they secretly released it in 2015 with a 2015 date and in a limited mintage!

Makes just as much sense as PM refining their own 4 nines blanks just for the cheaper priced kangas and leaving all other PM silver premium coins 3 nines!

Makes just as much sense as PM not offering their silver bars in 4 nines and continuing with 3 nines when they refine 4 nines? Lol

business decisions, don't always seem to make sense from the outside looking in.
Fact remains it makes no sense to buy something (blanks) you're already making in surplus.

Any of the Aussie dealers sourcing the 2015 Kangaroo from the US?

Looks like Perth blind sided us, just like they did with the 2013 Koala with chinese privy.

    PS

Perhaps we need a new thread for the 2015 Kangaroo. :)

But they were not making a surplus of 4 nines blanks when the first 4 nines kangas were sold to US customers they may well have had surplus 3 nines when they did the 2015 3 nines secret order.

My point is I believed something didnt ring true about the kangas and said so before they were available to aussies, the secret 2015, s just adds a bit more credibility to my original thoughs that the first 4 nines kangas were minted on non PM silver and more than likely minted in north america on readily available 4 nines blanks.

making your cheapest product from the best material and your best product from a cheaper material only makes sense!

It's not only people on this forum who think that this 2016 Kangaroo is not entirely Perth Mint manufactured. I've spoken to dozens of stackers from overseas and they are of the opinion that this coin has many of the hallmarks of The Canadian Mint. Anyway, doesn't Perth Mint export planchets to rival mints ?

At the end of the day- "If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck"

    Hi,

Has anyone else tested this? I am fully new to stacking and bought two of these off eBay (!).. tested with the Bullion Test app for Android and it looks and sounds fake (much higher pitch). Granted there is no specific option in the app for 1oz kangaroos, but my 2016 wedge-tailed eagles check out perfectly against all silver coins.

On top of that, the roo is clearly 1mm smaller than the eagle.

Thoughts? Definitely / most likely / not at all fake?

    Your opinion is appreciated :)

Can you upload a picture, also maybe starting its own thread?

    Update:

There are fake 2016 silver kangaroos out there, and I bought two of them (from eBay seller "27_offsuit" - after reading through this forum I guess I am not surprised that I got fakes through ebay).

In this case, the fakes have smaller diameter (~1mm smaller) and are slightly thicker (crappy photos, middle is real):

You can more clearly see a difference on the obverse face (left is real):

Of interest, the Bullion Test app can tell the difference!
