you'll get much better prices on here than either local dealers in brissy or ebay....just saying.

Until you're familiar with what your buying I would avoid ebay. Too many good fakes going around on there. Even seasoned stackers get caught out sometimes.
You're better off buying from reputable people on here. As long as they have plenty of feedbacks there shouldn't be any problem.

there are a few reasons, some as mentioned above. 1: You may well be looking at proof coins, that means you need to do more research and educate yourself around these types of coins if you are not familiar, 2: Paypal fees and charges and usually higher than necessary postage fees are the norm on ebay, these all amount to higher premiums, 3: Profit margins, even Perth Mint, Perth Bullion ex, coin dealers etc sell on ebay, reasons are exposure normally to inexperienced buyers, quite often the buy it now price is set to cover overheads and auctions are competed with inexperienced consumers that get caught in the mouse clicking I must have mental process, 4: Convenience at your desktop all done electronically.

This being said you will find the ODD bargain, and getting rarer nowadays, but please use your head and refrain from being a emotional consumer. No Reward without Risk but you are increasing your risk to a large degree by utilising auction sites and the fakes are unbelievable in their amount available but also the seller where descriptions are deliberately ambiguous or misleading. In addition many who are buying on ebay simply have no clue, even using scrap silver as an example bidders pay more for sterling silver(92.5%) scrap than it costs to buy silver bullion (99.9% or 99.99%) over the counter from a reputable outlet like a Mint or local Bullion dealer, go figure, if you ever figure out why let me know as I find it baffling. I have a sound theory which I will keep to myself. Use the forum and trade section here, Play safe and have a great weekend.

I often buy smaller quantities. I often find the best prices for the silver products I am looking to buy on eBay. Besides, I also occasiobally get discount coupons and free money when I shop with eBay. And besides, I am always protected when shopping on eBay...that can't be said for many other places one might buy silver from.

Another added bonus of shopping on eBay is that I have made connections with other sellers from around the world.

Only if I can't find something cheaper on eBay will I shop somewhere else.

    eBay rules!

An asked price not necessary means it's market price. Click SOLD items and check how much they went.

and if it is low price on ebay, it could be too good to be true

ebay is actually quite useful as it offers a window into the mindset of sellers, from the greedy and fanciful to the unscrupulous. Ebay is also a proxy to what is popular. There are some decent sellers in there but for the same price you can nearly always get a better deal from a shop retailer or here.

If you are new, it is crucial for you to know what fair value is for each item. Be careful of buying anything outside your knowledge.

I think ABC in Sydney is hard to beat for some items, including one ounce perth mint coins, cheaper than the mint itself sometimes. There was a sensational deal just late last year on funnel web spider coins.

Ebay reminds me of physical markets where vendors have a mix of real and fake items and leave it "up to you" to detect the issue and delineate fair value from wallet rapine.

I believe eBay is owned by some oil rich sheik in the Middle East. So that's where you fees on eBay end up!

eBay is a public company, it's owned by its shareholders. Its founder is still the largest shareholder. He's not an oil rich sheik, he lives in Nevada

when you put up the price for sale, just to cover all the costs, you will just get too many bargain harassing calls and contacts, so to avoid all that you better put your price closer to those expensive sellers anyway.

I don't see why sellers aren't using quicksales instead of ebay, their final value fee is 0%.

^ Because eBay is a far bigger and better marketplace than any other for individuals or small dealers who sell coins. Heck, even the largest dealers in the world sell on eBay because nothing else even comes close.

As enough ppl said/proved: alot scams out there on ebay, well that's cheating not trading.

One could name ebay as a place to try to sell grandfathers second class shoe boxes of pennies labeled as first class shoe boxes of gold ounces.

    How cool is that ???

Heh, after some bad experiences / scams / ebay doing nothing or only after others reported, I digged ebay and I found / used other marketplaces, both internet, secondhand shops and flea markets, got much better prices, and have some control myself instead of having to rely on somebody (ebay) to do the job.
I saw so many bargains on those places that I started to "stack" a number of other things than silver coins.
Ebay is a never again for me. It's abit like the banking system, better only for some benefitted / privileged, notably...sellers. For buyers well... um. It's like the saving side in the banks analogy. I prefer a thousand small markets far above 1 single big one that reserves its profit.

Look at all the investment funds/institutions that bought ebay shares. They see the $$$ and on a market, in the end, the $$$ come from those that buy not those that sell. Thus, the ebay prices are typically higher.
