getting a sketch of a human figure is hard to translate to a coin at the best of times, making it high relief (in the style of the first coin) is going to be near impossible without the figure looking hideous. You're not really working with curves remember, the depth is a result of pressing down on the metal. You can get depth fine as a result, but the gradients between "layers" (which you need for faces, wings) suffer. I'd say that's the reason for the hold up. I will be shocked if they find someone who can translate the below accurately, most of what makes that picture impressive is the shading and good luck mass producing it accurately even with an antique effect layered on. http://choicemint.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Valkyrie-Box.png Hopefully I'm completely wrong though, will be buying one if it turns out well.
Well, I for one appreciate taking time to get things right. I assume that is what's going on. IIRC everyone was disappointed last time when a date was given and problems translated into a later than expected arrival. Keep in mind they launched as new methodology with the first coin...it was quite striking but translating that forward may not have been as straightforward a process as we or they would have liked. Looking forward to seeing the final product for sure.
So this thread encourages those who might have some fantastic ideas & be interested in doing something similar sometime in the future? It's not so much the thickness of one's skin, but the level of patience & fortitude when dealing with a bunch of annoying petulant children who also happen to be your customers.
Not encourages....but also probably doesn't discourage either. I think the more effective way of encouraging change is through the wallet. If people appreciate what the business is doing, they will support it by buying their products. If not, they won't buy their products and often will voice their opinion as to why. For me, I don't mind delays so long as I can be reasonably assured that it's due to working out unforeseen kinks or improving the product. Now if the business already has you money and the promised delivery dates are long past and the delays are inordinate, then that's quite different and an upset customer is very understandable. I'm assuming that Choice Mint is trying to avoid this and instead of the delays coming post pre-order, they might be trying to clear up issues before pre-orders are taken. There are legit complaints and there is over exaggeration. Also, some of what we may see is neither but perhaps a little light hearted taunting. Serious customers might approach dissatisfaction differently. .
I don't care if they take another year to release the Valkyrie, I will buy it anyways. But I would like to see an update on the status every few weeks to a month especially since they told us a couple months ago that they were really close. It can't be that hard to put something on the choice mint site once a month.
Anyway now there are so many posts that anybody who visits forum for the first time will think it's the most popular series ever, right along with the Stock Horse.
After posting, I magically received on of my other orders (didn't know it shipped). I still think they can improve on communication, everything else is good. Packaged well, good prices, but perhaps they are understaffed in the marketing dept. It's difficult to do everything. I know for myself operating a small business trying to juggle everything is very difficult which is why I continue to do business with them.
We expect dealers to begin offering Pre-Sales of Valkyrie sometime between this weekend and Tuesday with delivery beginning in late August - early September. Coins are already minted, are just being finished with Antiquing and COA etching.
Awesome! When can we see official pictures and video? Has an official video been made? If not, it should seriously be considered. For some collectors, a video can sell a coin like nothing else can. I've bought more than 1 numi coins just based on a well made video of the coin. .
