If I were to guess, I would say that they are just trying to draw people in - and it seems to be working. I will be posting details today about the drawing for 10 Valkyrie coins.
Look, the good news is you can make an offer on one of those 1-10 serial numbers and maybe catch FCC in a really generous mood.....then put the coin up on eBay to find that newbie collector who digs coins like this, who isn't a member of this forum, and who doesn't know where to find the FCC page and is willing to pay beaucoup bucks for such a coin. Heck, when I was a newbie, more than once I paid significantly more for a coin on eBay that I could have gotten for significantly less if only I knew what I knew today. .
I'm trying to sell #50 on ebay (graded 70 by NGC) for $550 US. I haven't even gotten a nibble yet! http://www.ebay.com/itm/231958370357?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
How many of these have been sold so far? How many offers, even? All look to be still available, to me. Yes, somebody posted to this thread about these FCC listings. And yes, we're now talking about them. However, keep in mind that not all promotion is necessarily positive promotion. While I applaud & encourage your continued effort in these high-relief types, ultimately they're not for me, personally. I understand that might not hold true for others, obviously. Best wishes with your coins.
Hey shawn120, really nice slabbed Odin coin! It's a bit surprising that in the aftermarket, there seems to be less than stellar enthusiasm for this really excellent first coin of series and first coin for Choice Mint. The numismatic / coin collecting market is such a challenge to really understand well. If anyone here ever truly figures it out, please write an essay on it and demystify it for the rest of us....please. .
The huge success of Odin really caused us to raise the bar for Valkyrie. When you seen Valkyrie next week I think you'll agree. One thing was certain, we were not going to release a coin that we did not believe was as good as it should be. Fortunately we've gotten the process down pat and now that our die maker knows exactly what we want it should make the rest of the coins in the series go by much much faster. The 3rd coin in the series is already being modeled.
I'm not sure why you would think that this isn't doing ok in the aftermarket. In a time where a great number of coins can be had for 30% or more below the release price 6 months after release, Odin is selling at 20%-30% above release.
Awesome. thanks for the update. As FC got the attention of folks by quote 3k, I got your attention. Look forward to seeing #2. Glad to know these won't take as long in the future. I've been told if you hit it out of the park on your 3rd issue, you have a successful series on your hands...number 2 coming up, and 2 being worked on...kudos.
"The first 10 COA numbers on the list that were purchased prior to the order deadline of October 20, 2015 will receive a free Valkyrie coin." Winners already decided?
There are many details, procedures and works from planning to minting. It will take times especially this numic price is reasonable as compare to others.
