@SilverPete Yeah, a bit risky... considering the mintage... Should we start another thread ? NEW COINS RELEASED FROM 8:00AM (AWST) 1 MARCH 2016*: Norse Gods - Odin 2016 2oz Silver High Relief Antiqued Coin
I don't think it's a great release, not terrible though. I think it fails on a couple levels - 1 - The background is too busy and doesn't necessarily shout out Australia like I think it should have 2 - I worry this antiquing process is going to be overused, I'm already getting sick of it. Having said that, I understand the need to use it now that they have sunk the resources into perfecting it. 3 - Packaging is lazy on multiple levels, certainly not original. All this really does is dull my enthusiasm for the gods series going forward, would have preferred the antique finish remained exclusive to them.
I still have some screenshots from his Stacker Hangout days.. Impressive, indeedy! Wish he'd start participating in the streams again. Anyway, okay-enough coin. Always a fan of some relief & antiquing..
I agree with everything Aureus has to say though I do hope this becomes a first in series of iconic Aussie themes with Koala and Kook done later and not just some one-off money grab.
BTW for those buying from Talisman, if the coin becomes popular and goes up in price don't expect to ever get the coin - thats how these clowns operate.
Downies has them for sale http://www.downies.com/Perth-Mint/A...ef-Silver-Antiqued-Coin/6979/productview.aspx
From the look of the stock photos there is no way to remove the coin from the clear presentation case/block whatever it is? I wouldn't like not being able to handle the coin as you can handle the gods/goddesses coins.
I really can't believe how outrageous Downies prices are. Wow. I hope those are priced in U.S. dollars. Eeeeks.
Actually its pretty easy to get to the coin in this suspended box. Typically the box is a clamshell in two halves with a hinge that opens apart. Its sealed either by magnets or a flip over flap that can be opened. I actually like these displays but they are kinda cheap to find and there is no where to put the COA but under the display.
Assuming the presentation case is like the case for the Helvetic Mint's Swiss Wildlife Red Deer coin (which it looks nearly identical), the coin can be removed. This Kangaroo coin is a far higher quality design than the fugly Grods of Olympus crap coins. My hats off to the PM on this one. .
I ordered 3 of these and I collected the Gods and Godness series although the I missed out on the first Gods coin. Also seen their was 2 other Antiqued coins made that I totally missed out on. I really like this style and need to find a way to stay and get more informed. Does anyone know when these will be shipped? Also, do you get billed at time of order confirmation or shipment? My first post and happy to of found this community! Thank you all in advance for help and insights! /Mark Rex
I think you will find in time this coin will do okay. Given the mintage, manufacturer and the first of possible series, I think there are far riskier options out there.... Not a bad coin to be stuck with either way.
In my opinion it is overpriced and not worth a speculation. There are much better options out there in higher liquid markets. There are not enough numis fans / speculators to eat up a mintage of 3000 on this pricelevel and additional the bad sentiment around PM. Also it is not clear it will become a series. Mintage of 3000 was the wrong decision, 1500 or 1000 would have been enough. You can speculate that there will be a low mintage in the end but if so they wont make a series.
You may be right Nintendo, we will have to wait and see. Personally I don't think the mintage is a problem. There has been bad sentiment around PM's for a while now and a number of coins are still doing quite well. I can't speak for everyone of course, but it's the coins for me that are actually holding up far better than the bullion. Its all pretty much speculation isn't it...Agree on the price though, it's getting up there...Time will tell.
