I received an e-mail from the Royal Mint announcing their newest Britannia....it's a 2015 .999 silver coin with the famous Jody Clark Britannia design. It's the RM's first ever 50 for 50 Britannia.

For the past hour I've been trying to order it from the RM but their order page is choked with people trying to buy this new coin....so I am forced to wait then I get kicked off their system. Maybe it's my connection...I don't know.

Right now I'm being told there are 310 people in queue before me.

Anyway, if you can get through to order, don't buy the last one or I'll be very pissed at you. :)

I almost gave up trying, the mintage is 100k but no limit on purchases?! I doubt they'll last very long . . .

Bought some, had a 10 person queue in front of me. Website was going soooo slow and was super glitchy and reloading. Took forever to check out. Bought a few, have a good feeling about this one. Love the design.

What was the mintage for the 2014 1oz Brits anyway?

Cos this 50 for 50 coin is close to an oz of silver I believe. The prices for the 1oz 2014 Brit is off the charts (look at ebay prices).

I wonder how will this design look in RM's Uncirculated finish.

Meh. I loved Star Wars, had all the toys, figures, bedspread etc.

But they just churn out so many collectibles they have diluted the entire market. They have flooded the trade card collectors with ever more increasing sets, parallel set, chase cards etc. that it is not even worth trying to put together a set from ripping packs.

Each new set they bring out lowers the values of the others, particularly when they are still releasing sets for the original three films.

They will do the same for coins, there are already plenty of opportunities to get hold of Star Wars related coins and medals and they will just keep making them. Each new release will have something novel to make it better than the one you just bought.

Plus if they screw up the next films like they did the last ones there goes the collector base.

I will stick to my giant plastic Falcon which probably cost me about the same as the coin and is waaaay cooler. :)

I can't recall exact numbers, but I think it was around 5000 with 2500 as limited presentation.

Looks as though the site is out of panic mode - just put in an order successfully. It will be interesting to see what impact a GPB50:50 coin on a ten pound blank will have on previous years...

31 grams. Not quite 1 oz. At least the floor price on these is 50 GBP.

Still waiting for the Perth Mint or RAM to come out with a $20 for $20 coin series. Canada and the UK have already shown how popular the series can be and they have expanded into the 50 for 50 and 100 for 100 quite successfully.

I would have no trouble converting some plastic fiat into some silver fiat.

No need to rush on these, there's still more than 92,000 available. However, the Star Wars medals are nearly sold out.
