What do you do with numismatic packaging containing batteries?

The Perth Mint is releasing more and more numismatic coins in very cool, light-up, limited edition packaging that obviously contains batteries. All the Star Trek coins came either in the light-up transporter case or individual light-up cases, and the Back to the Future Delorean coin came in a light-up Delorean time-machine.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love this limited edition type of light-up packaging, especially since it looks really cool on display. But I am also a collector who wants to keep at least one of each mint in the box. That is why I normally buy at least two of everything, one to display/show-case and one to keep mint and new-in-box.

And that is where my dilemma starts. What do you guys do as far as the batteries are concerned? In a way I want to take the batteries out to prevent them from leaking over time, but when I do, the item is no longer mint and new-in-box. This isn't an immediate concern for right-now, but I envision having to do something within the next 5 years or so sometime.

How do you guys handle this?

Interesting dilemma. Do you know what sort of batteries are in them ? AA,AAA, or the small "button" ones ? If its the small button ones, they probably wont leak. Are the batteries pre-inserted ?

Take them off. I generally take them off & put them in a sealed plastic bag.
If it leaked, it will ruined everything.
Lithium or not it will still leaked....

As Golden ChipMunk stated above I took mine out of the car and separated them.

    Why tempt fate?

if yo want to sell them in future with a profit sell them as soon as possible.
look back to the older "numis" of 2010+ from pm.
a lot of expensive colored scrap for example now.
only value thats reality todsy is melt
the same will happpen with this batterie package things.
if you do not care about the money you payed, enjoy the packages day by day and replace the batteries when they are empty.
i have learned my lessons already.

Save the batteries. Even after they start leaking, they'll probably still be worth more than crap novelty packaging that looks like space ships, time machines or miniature children's lunchbox replicas.

Thanks for all the responses guys. Gives me something to think about. I haven't received my BTTF coins yet, but from what I can tell there are no batteries in the hoverboard. Just the Delorean. (Hoverboard is magnets)
