did he at least sort out the pre 82s and the wheaties from the copper plated zinc pennies? there's no way i would bank my round 50s or pre decimal silver for face value like he did with his pennies
I believe 82's are still copper, yes? If yes, then it would be pre 83's one would sort out. There's very few pre 83's out there in current circulation. I bought like $150 worth of pennies from my local bank last year just to search...slim pickin's in there. Went through bags of circulated Kennedy half dollars from my local bank last year also...not even a single 40%er in the whole lot. .
Even though you got zip i am still jealous of your ability to do it. We buy lotto tickets for the chance to dream. I would much rather buy $500 worth of dimes, quarters or halfs a week and search for free silver. + there are all the double dies and other errors that people pay for
I've checked for doubled die strikes but doubled die strikes are too easily confused with the much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much more common mechanical doubling which carries no premium at all and in fact is considered a form of damage for some collectors. In my view, it's totally not worth the enormous amount of effort to try to find real, actual, authentic, rare doubled die strikes. http://doubleddie.com/144822.html Someone else might have a clear conscience with suckering someone else into buying one of the very common types of mechanical doubling coins they may find, but real and actual doubled die strikes are way too rare and way too easily confused with mechanical doubling for me to bother searching any more. And I am an honest person....I am not going to try to pawn off a very common mechanical doubling damaged coin for a true doubled die error coin. I'm not saying that you'd do that but eBay is full of people doing exactly that...offering mechanical doubling coins but yet describing them as doubled die error coins. .
At one point the price of the base metals in our coinage came very close to face value, might be worth keeping your savings in 20c pieces just in case that inflation day ever comes. They might offer one of those $25 bonus for every $100 cashed in deals like they mentioned in the article. Worst case scenario you have to deal with piles of coins and you haven't lost anything, plus one day your coins might be worth 5 times what their face value is.
Right, who'd ever thought back in the 19th and early 20th centuries that the copper in the U.S. cent would some day be worth more than the cent itself....not many people. Certainly it would seem, any amount of resource/commodity that money is made from could potentially become more valuable than the currency value itself....that means that some day the wood, ink, and cotton that is in Fed Res notes today might some day be worth more than the $ currency value....start stacking your valuable fiat paper money, folks! At least paper notes don't milk spot .
We are shit out of luck here in NZ , everything is already steel. If they day ever comes that steel in the coin is worth more than the coin , i do not want to be around.
