I know it's not exactly what you suggested but I think it's the closest look you're gonna get. Disney had a series called Mickey and Friends and they had each coin enclosed in a Perspex acrylic case. Maybe you could do the same with glass? If you do it well enough, you can't really tell it's two separate pieces held together with magnets.
