After the three toed sloth the Hippo is my favorite animal. Where did you get these from. Are they 999 or 925? (and why don't they make a three toed sloth coin)

    999, per obverse, 5-o'clock.

Is this a one off? Or part of a series?

Yeah, I like the coins, just that it's a bit over-kill & over-saturation already, it seems.

Sort of wish they stuck with one country, but switched up the animals every year.

Or, switched around the countries every year, with a different animal, perhaps what's prevelant in that particular country.

I don't know. I guess they're trying to milk it. Suppose I might do the same if I were in their shoes, heh.

Even just 6 months ago, I would have already been all over these, buying multiples of them all. But since then, spot (in USD) has come down, making these a little less attractive. Plus, my Ag universe has expanded a lot, and my focus has shifted.

I like the ringed animals a lot, though. Chad's coat of arms is cool, but I might just grab the Zebra, instead. Who knows. Might wait to see if any US dealers get them in stock, and at what price-point.

I've got both Benin Elephants, and think they did a pretty good job with them.

I like and Elephants and Hippo and Zebra I too ordered.

I just live in Russia, so I can order the coins in Europe excluding VAT.

Price for Hippo (not including shipping) is 40 AUD for me.
    I think this is acceptable.

Acceptable, certainly. But I also have to include any payment fees, currency exchange fees & higher shipping, as part of my cost..

That's money that could have been used otherwise. Always have to weigh options.

As for Russia, I have some graded/slabbed roubles & kopeks in silver & copper.. Both modern & old.

Very nice detail, and great designs. Not cheap in the US, though.

Would love to see some photos of any Russian silver bars (and from that part of the world)..

Either yours, and/or any bars available at Russian dealers.

Perhaps start a new thread for that in the "Silver" sub-forum?

I bet others would be interested in seeing them & obtaining them.. :D

Add a photo of the first coin in the series - Elephant Benin, 2014.
Elephants have a head start - good sun at the time of photography.

I love both of these coins, and to a lesser extent Benin Elephant, 2015.

    Didn't even know these existed!

    2014 Benin Kilo..

    Mintage of just 99.

A few have been sold on eBay the past few months in the $750 - $900 USD range -- plus $30 ship (from Germany to US, at least).

I'd keep it quiet & go for it myself, but I don't really have the funds for it.. plus I try to stay away from lots of mirror on kilo coins, anyway.

Still would be a cool one to have, for any here interested.

Did I mention the mintage of just 99?? :D

Same here.. The '14 is nicer than the '15.

And there lies a major problem with the way they're doing these.. Designs of some years are bound to be weaker than others.

Not only that, but it does get to be a bit repetitive & boring after a while, with the same animal, year after year. Especially if they don't eventually switch up the style at some point.

Potential buyers/collectors may lose some interest.

One of the reasons why I think the Perth Lunars do so well.. You see a certain creature only once every 12 years!

Plus, they switched up the designs' style from Series 1 to Series 2.

Other mints could learn from that.

    Got Zebra Benin.
    Nice, but expensive.

Yet in this respect, Rwanda - my true love. :p

My Hippo & Zebra are on their way. Couldn't say "no" :D

BTW, they've hit the US. A few of the Hippo at Apmex, and Hippo & Zebra on eBay (both auction & BIN).

Run the numbers.. Might still be cheaper from Europe, depending on rest of order / shipping.

    Got mine in!

    Both are very nice.

Capsules have a few minor scratches, but I transfer them to my own air-tites, anyway (for a better fit).

For the Hippo, I've seen mintage numbers of 3,500 & 5,000.. Anybody know the correct #?

All the Benin's have been 5K.
