A 2003 1oz proof kook just sold for $400 on eBay !!!!!! http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/381369019852 Are the kooks finally getting their revenge on the lunars taking the spotlight ?
2001 2oz+1oz set went for around $600(twice) if I remember correctly.nice coins but cannot complete the whole series as the mint stopped producing proof kooks from 2007 and started again this year...I would never compared them to the success of the lunars, especially series1.
That will be a one off, someone obviously was desperate for that particular coin. The kook proofs especially the 2oz coins have doubled in value over the last 12 months or so, the 1ozers are up around 30% on a year ago it is mainly the 2000 onwards coins that are the most sought after. I should add it is only the standard plain proofs that have increased in value the privies are not that widely collected or desirable to collectors. The standard 1oz & 2oz proof kook coins finished in 2005 & have not been re started. Here is a pic of my 1oz proof kooks full date run plus the anniversary proof.
$35 -$55 au is about the going price for 1oz 1990 to 1999 proof kooks. There are always buy it now on fleebay that are well above that price but you will see the same coins from the same seller time and time again without a sale. Actual auctions on ebay are a much better judge of the premium which is usually much lower than the buy it now. I think these proofs are "sleepers" and would have no hesitation buying some of them at the $60+ mark. The only fully complete one I have is the 99 with wallet coa and printed box, all my others just have wallet and coa, not sure how many others had a box?
I could be wrong but I think up until 1998 they just came in the leather wallets, its not too important any way for the pre 2000 coins,2000-2005 its best if you have the outer box. Next time I go through my coin case/box storage stuff I'll check to see which came with outer boxes.
I have just had an email from a friend of mine in the US, he bought that coin & as I suspected it was the last one he needed for his set, unfortunately for him someone else was also desperate for the 2003 as well.
That's because hardly anyone collects the kilo sets, very good value if you do though. The 2oz & 1oz plain proof coins are the most desirable & collected.
Any idea what 1990 Hobart coin show 2oz proof kook is worth? Supposed to be limited to 500, but can't find any info on them!
