Its quite rare to see Libertads for sale by Australian dealers any more, especially fractional Libertads. For a while, PerthBullion was supplying fractionals, but now about the only Libertads around are 1 ounce, and even those don't seem to come up for sale on the forum very often in Australia.

So what do Aussies think of Libertads? Do people simply not care much about them any more? Or are they losing popularity because no one is selling them?

I think a lot of people like them, but also like local bullion.

I like them but we are spoilt for choice with perth mint products especially lunars of which some appreciate like no others.

I would buy liberatads if they sold them more here.

Demand having exhausted supply isn't really a sign of diminishing popularity.

I don't believe the problem is that the interest in Libertads from Australians is decreasing, the real problem is that it's increasing everywhere even while the mintages have decreased. Since there are no direct distributors for Mexico in Australia, the coins are not going to be as common as they are in countries where there are direct distributors. The Australian dealers that are able to get them are most certainly buying them from one of Mexico's official distributors, thus their supply is limited to what they can buy from this distributor.

Didn't know libertads were popular in Australia to begin with. Though the craze was always in the US. :p

like em, but once you have a couple (1oz, 2oz, 5oz, KG (any year will do)) you've got all you need. Lunars on the other hand :D

Generally this is the case. Libertad supplies out of Mexico are problematic to begin with, and it impacts what's available at the distributors for redistribution. Often they're just put into the "too hard" basket to source because of ongoing unavailability, and the annual volumes sold are miniscule compared to ASEs, SMLs, even Pandas.

Throw in BU's & proofs, and agreed..

I still grab a couple 1-oz BU Libertads every year, though.

Well... at least they (hopefully) won't be covered with milk spots.
Think about upping your game and buying into one of those boxed proof sets, though.
Those things have a level of class that transcends the BU's and they're are addictive.

Well maybe we should start importing them. I can get you any of the sizes for this year in BU...

Getting 1oz BU is absolutely no problem at all here in France. Every dcent online shop offers it. More expensive than Philarmonics, Maple Leafs and Armenians. Around the same premium as ASE, maybe a little bit more.
