So I found out someone was going to trade in a stack of florin at the bank for 20c each.
I bought 100 of them from them for $20 and I can buy another 375 off them for $75 (again, bank trade rates).
I have gone through the ones I have already bought and there was 5 x 1941-1945 florins, 94 x 1946-1957 florins (including 1951 and 1954 commemorative coins) and 1 x 1947 New Zealand florin.
Most of them seem to be in decent condition as they aren't worn down, just a bit discoloured on the raised areas (looks like from being stacked).

I have never had any old coins or anything before so I don't know what to do with them or if I should pick up the rest or not.
I just thought they had to be worth more than bank trade value so I just impulse bought them.

So I guess my question is; what should I do with them and should I get the rest?

Quick photo (never realised my desk was that dirty)

At a tad under $4 worth of silver in each one I would say you have made a good start in your coin collection.

Yes you will get plenty of pm messages for these and many who will buy from you here on the forum.

You have scored a great deal. Buy them all and you will make a tidy profit.

Glad to hear my hunch paid off!
If anyone wants a closer look at any of them, let me know I can do a proper scan.
Will try to collect the rest tomorrow while they are still face value

I got as many more as I could. Here's the final tally:

467 coins total. Pretty happy with that

Hadn't realised that there were 2 x 51 types of florin.

Nice coins, don't clean or rub them as many have mint bloom.

I would auction them on here and then use the money to buy some bars.

    Great score

Never had anything to do with coins but 15 hours after you started this thread you've managed to purchase, sort and catalogue 476 coins, including different mintmarks and varieties. Looks like you even had time to give them a clean. Did you buy them over breakfast this morning?

Its about time some of the blatant bullshit getting posted here got called out for what it is.

I don't know, I have got florins for face from a bank before (not this many) pictures are less than average and coins are not really that hard to sort/catalogue. However I wouldn't engage in a trade with a 4 post member unless they posted 1st the got payment upon RCPT or agreed to a ftf trade.
Good luck to whoever engages in a trade with this member

I understand being cautious with a first trade, but it's not hard to sort and catalogue the coins.
I sorted by year and type, then learnt what mint marks are via Google so I separated those out then typed what I had into excel.
I only have a few posts because I had never had anything to do with coins before I got these.
I would fully understand if someone wanted better pictures or scans (as seen recommended on reddit) and a small purchase or something first. Don't know what else I can offer

who would want to sell these to the bank and why? masses need to educate themselves....I heard one time old fellow paid with round 50's at the petrol station .then he learned later on how much they were really worth....

If you live in Sydney there is a regular meet you could take them to.
