General question. Seems like the only 07 & 08 koalas ever for sale are the carded version? I dont mind paying a hefty premium for first release bullion coins but I always think what's the point of paying an added extra premium for a collector card that I would just throw in the bin anyway? Did PM actually sell non carded 07/08 koalas?
Yes they did sell plain bullion coins.... if you are ever going to throw a card in the bin let me know - I'll take it off your hands for free - I'll even pay the postage
The point of paying extra for a collector card is that they are rare. Just as some folk buy footy, baseball, cig cards etc, Koala coins in collector cards are rare; to complete a collection, the 2013 and 2014 coloured Koala coins are only available in cards. Koala Bullion details for the 2007, 2008..........2015 coins is below. http://www.perthmint.com.au//docume...la_Silver_Bullion_Coin_Series_2007_-_2015.pdf
Think you'll find regular bullion 07 and 08 Koalas sell at a hefty premium anyway. They were "unlimited", which everyone assumed to mean bazillions, and in the end not many were minted - 137k for the 07, 84k for the 08. Compare that to 300k mintages for Kookaburras, or subsequent 300k-900k mintages for later year Kooks.
Fishtaco, hi, if you're interested I have 2 rolls of 2008 Koalas that I intend to sell and I am in Perth. I have no trades as yet and unfortunately due to work commitment I was unable to attend the Perth meeting in April as I would have liked to try & sell them then. I can post pics when I get home. If you're interested let me know. Cheers.
Sorry you misunderstood me,I dont collect cards or stamps or carded bullion coins so the carded part of the carded koala is useless to "me"
This brings to mind people who put a 90,s re mint kook in a spare square cap and sell it as an original sq cap kook!
Sorry mate I am a small time stacker and dont buy rolls, but I am sure you will sell them quite easily on here in the trade section, if you have a loose single thats a bit lonely I would buy it
Fishtaco, that's ok, will hopefully sell quicker as rolls (hope not wishful thinking), but if I do have to break one I'll let you know, Cheers.
Thanks Rolls of 08,s would be worth a bit but the flippers want to make quick profits on ebay so also want them cheap, personally I would keep them in rolls and not sell at all or flip them at a ridiculous high single price because plenty are buying at "stupid". The 07 and 08 koala are not really affecting my "ocd" with collecting every years bullion coin? I am even considering selling all my koalas and putting them in the too hard basket as they are really nothing special as bullion coins go! Mind you the 09 is my favourite so perhaps I should just buy a roll of 09,s and dump the rest!
I too collect the 1oz Koalas and only need the 07 and 08 years for the full set.. I havent see that yet of people putting re-mints in square caps, do they even produce the square caps anymore ? Cheers, HAPPY STACKING
So then would you say its fairly safe to say what kooks come in square caps would be originals and not a re-mint ? Cheers, HAPPY STACKING
There are some unscrupulous deceptive characters that will look to fool a punter by switching capsules with a monetary incentive and lacking core social ethics as to not care about burning bridges on community forums / sales/ auction platforms for short-term gain ignoring the longterm burn as there reputation supersedes them .. as always research who you trade/ buy from so as you can have some peice of mind as to these kinds of questions, or understand the tell-tale signs of a life in a square capsule -- ie gun-metal grey to steel magnolia to rainbow rim toning etc. As always DYOR, luck favours the brave, fortune follows the informed and lucky brave among us
Well explained but I have to stress that I have not bought a swapped out square cap from any SS member (that I am aware of) and am happy with all my purchases from SS members
It is quite simple to swap a less sought after sq cap kook for a more sort after sq cap kook with a re mint by simply swapping caps for a greater chance of both sale and profit. This can also be done with carded coins like the koala when there is a spare card going for begs
