If a Republican wins the White House in 2016, is it logical to assume that the price of gold and silver will go up?

I don't see why it would. The president is just a mouthpiece anyhow

My guess is it would go down because that would be the beginning of this country reversing 8 years shambolic administration.

The problem with Obammmar he may just be a mouth piece. The question is who is he the mouth piece for? My guess would be Iran the way he negotiates.

The next President will most probably be a Republican.
There are a lot of very strong candidates, but it's way too early to even guess who will ultimately get the nomination.

So far, it looks like the only hope the Democrats have is Hillary Clinton, who carries so much old baggage, and is presently facing the prospect of a long summer of testimony and investigation into her secret email servers.

Her supporters will tell you that there's nothing to see here, so just move along, but the Republicans are not going to let this go away, and it will severely cripple her chances, and doom the Democrats to defeat, if they choose to stand by her. Unless some new super-star Obama-clone comes along, and excites the youth voters, with promises of an even bigger and better Inter-World Utopia.

But we tried that, and it didn't work. Besides, not even the Democrats would be dumb enough to fall for that again, would they?

I really hope Hillary does decide to run fo President it would be great fun to watch: such an interesting history, and so many secrets to explore!

But she will have to decide very soon. The rules of political fund-raising, have historically shown that "the early bird gets the worm", in terms of money and political favors.

    Go Hillary!!!

Clinton will probably win. The USA likes its dynasties, which I actually suspect are usually the unidentified 'elite', apart from wild cards like Carter - and that potential disappeared when Bush Junior stole the election.

It's a Brave New World and political colour no longer matters. I'm surprised anyone turns out to vote in the federal elections in USA. But then again I'm expecting a USSR type collapse at some stage and a partition. It's an old empire that will shrink as China and Russia come on line. Just hope they don't blow things up as they become irrelevant.

Too many Americans rely on democrats hands to feed them. Voting in the republicans jeopardises that

Finally - we can stop being the world's policeman.

How nice it will be when Russia and China can be relied upon to defend the world from tyrany, and promote peace and freedom for all.

The math just doesn't work. Chris Christie is the only guy with a reasonable shot, but he didn't win a lot of friends in the party when he invited the president to hold hands and look longingly into each others eyes on the middle of the last election after katrina. There are a lot of people who will never forget that. It's accepted wisdom that no republican can win trying to fight for the middle, which is where Christie lives, he would have to change his stripes to the point of incredulity to win tea votes.
Jeb frogged himself with common core and backing it even after the issue was used against him by the right. He's also going to split people in the party on immigration.

Bobby Jindal is an outside shot but I really really don't see it happening.
I personally have a lot of time for John Bolton, but we know that's not going to happen, even during a two front war foreign policy didn't have a big impact on the last 3 elections and that's his only real draw.

The primaries could be even more fractured than last time and you can expect at least as much in fighting and probably more bitterness. The Dems aren't problem free but even if you get a sensible Republican nominee in the final outcome the primary debates and process with the more "colourful" candidates sound bites (and their occasional state wins) will be like one giant year long fundraising touring road show for the Democrats.

It's a shame Ron Paul never got more traction inside the party, he could have really kicked the legs out of the Democrats youth vote if they had backed his efforts. He was a libertarian interested in applying his ideas equally, tea party libertarians will never get the same response while they're default mode is to argue libertarianism almost exclusively in the context of the second amendment and "handouts" and not the war on drugs and foreign policy. That's where Rand falls down.

Long story short, unless something pretty weird happens a Republican isn't going to end up in the white house. They might keep winning seats on the hill but a Republican president is a distant possibility.

I don't think metals prices change much whatever the outcome. The election itself might spike prices as a time of uncertainty if things spin out of control in the middle east and the election adds an extra dimension of confusion to the problem but I don't think you can expect a serious difference whoever might end up winning.

    @Phrenzy:

Your analysis of each person is brilliantly concise and spot-on. What do you think of Ben Carson and Marco Rubio?

What are the Democrats going to do about Hillary? The Republicans are not going to let the scandal disappear, and the Democrats don't have the strength to drag such a cripple with baggage across the finish line.

And are the odds great, that the next election will be so historic, that the incumbent party of a two-term president will win the presidency a third time?

Who else is there? If Elizabeth Warren and Joe Biden are the best you can do, it's time to get real busy. The fund-raising season starts soon, and the media will be restless.

I get thoroughly depressed when I think about our political future. I would vote dem or repub if either one of them wasn't a complete tool.

Me thinks Julie has taken one or two, to many blunt force blows to the head with her thinking or has attended one too many of Bill Ayres classes on socialism.. Socialism=Poverty for all.

    OK Nikeva and BoliverT,

Concerning Julie's post .... what brilliant in-depth and insightful political analysis you two have provided.

Now I understand why US politics is in the state it is in.

Sure the Neocons pushing into a war with Russia would send the price up.
