In what circumstances would you choose to sell on eBay rather than SS?

I'm just wondering whether people sometimes go straight to eBay to sell something rather than advertise on SilverStackers first, and why?

What are the factors that lead you to sell on one or the other?

ebay can be a last resort if something doesn't sell here

I recently sold an ATB 5oz Acadia coin for $379 on ebay, I don't think it would have fetched even half of this price if listed here.

because I'm getting metal cheaper here ?
I would use it, maybe, in a rare instance, but never bought, or sold on eBay.
    But, that's strictly only metals.
    Otherwise, it's great

    :)

Certain collectible gold coins. Seems to get more when selling on eBay than here (people mostly want to pay spot/close to spot)

When they're willing to overpay for prices that would be laughed at on here :)

I've never sold on eBay because I prefer F2F, but it seems like eBay has a much larger pool of potential buyers, which makes me wonder why they are not buying in SS since its cheaper here (usually).

The circulating coins I have on here havent had much interest. For example the $1 2014 MOR I have listed at $3.50 and not a bite, but apparently they go quite easily for $5 or more on ebay, so I have been thinking about it.

Ive told people who buy on ebay they can do much better here and they still buy on ebay.

To get best price on ebay you need to ship overseas, the bigger the market the better the buying prices, but also the bigger potential for foulups and mishaps.

You make more on ebay...with the fees you need to. All good until you get claims of missing goods and paypals policies start stuffing you around.

Fees, stuff ups, and unhonest buyers who scam you through paypal are indeed the reason I have not gone the ebay route in some time. I will still probably take the risk if i really cant move any items here though.

Get a Market Stall or possibly Coin and Stamp Shows.

I went to an annual C&S Show last long weekend. Only 3 coin sellers and about 15 stamp sellers. One was selling various RAM and PM proofs plus no-value o/s coins. The other 2 had Aust and o/s pre-decimal collectibles and a small selection of non-numi us dimes and the like.

Prices on the whole were numi based....triple spot for the cheapest florin and way higher for better grades and the proofs were all over $100 and from non-performing series. Taking pride of place on a stall was a genuine $100 made from 24k gold...in other words crap. I thought somebody with a selection of standard type 1oz coins would do quite well there.

Here's an idea - how about a collective SilverStackers stall at some big coin show? Would something like that be worthwhile assuming there is any interest?

Came here because ebay can be a problem as a buyer. Bought Kookaburra proof sets and paid for expensive shipping. Seller put them in a baggy and the into an AU Post box. Coins were not secured and sets were not cushioned. Thankfully coins arrived with the only mishap being a shattered capsule. When asked said it was AU Post fault.
Another misrepresented what he had and I spent alot of time for nothing.
    Non-professional and no business ethics.
These events happened on AU.ebay. US.ebay not better.
    It takes all kinds.

There is silver bullion ounces that are being sold under the auction listings with what appears to be the original manufacturers. Ebayers who dont look beyond the Heading of the listing are paying what they think is a good price (sometimes more than a good price) for something that was bought from aliexpress for example (china selling shop) for a couple of dollars. These are being copied off real Bullion manufacturers examples (Scottsdale, JM silver, Northwest silver, Englehard) and are very good quality replicas that nowhere on bar show that they are fake or clad. The auction should say it is a copy and is clad so as to not deceive people intentional or not. I cant believe these Chinese are making these things or that the genuine manufacturers are not jumping on every copy of their bullion on Ebay.
