I believe in one thread here in the forum another SStacker member mentioned that the Banco de Mexico will formally announce a premium increase for their coins, by 25% (this is the charge over and above the spot price of gold and silver). It's apparently official now. Your thoughts: 1) Will demand for 2015 Libertads noticeably drop due to this...or just the opposite? 2) Will demand for pre 2015 Libertads eventually noticeably increase due to this? 3) Will there be no noticeable change either way? .
I don't think I would buy them for 25% more. But if the older version prices go up I know I will be happy!!
I can not seem to find any info on this. Can you provide a link please? EDIT: It may pay to note that when i googled to check this the first link was leading here to SS. This makes it even more important to provide reliable links, otherwise people will get led here from searches and think we are a bunch of idiots should this info be wrong
Evidence please? I haven't purchased my proof liberates yet, so I wouldn't like to see any increase in price yet.
The information regarding the increase comes directly from Lois & Don Bailey & Son Numismatic Services....there is no larger (or more reputable) Mexican coin broker in the world than Lois & Don Bailey & Son Numismatic Services as far as I am aware. I think other SStacker forum members who are dealers or work for a dealer of Mexican coins can corroborate this. I received the news via e-mail as I am on the mailing list of Lois & Don Bailey & Son Numismatic Services. .
This came out a few weeks ago, 19 Feb 2015. http://world.mintnewsblog.com/2015/...icent-seven-and-other-notes-another-key-year/
Last year choice bullion sell at 5XX. this year is 6XX for 15. Not many dealers are selling the 14 and 15 official 7 coins set. Many are selling the self assembly set without COA and original wooden box at lower price.
Just the premium is going up so not 25% in total. In real terms what does it work out to be, around $1?
I can confirm - just the premium increases by 25 % So that is not a big issue in the end Allocations for orders of silver 1 oz, 2 oz and 5 oz BU 2015 coins will be made until end of next week by Banco de Mexico
Yeah, like $1-$1.50 USD per oz for the BU, depending -- and assuming that's retail premium. I'll still buy 'em! Might be a bit of a damper for the larger sizes & proofs, though..
Yes, that was my biggest concern. The premiums on BU's is not high but on the proof set and kilo, that 25% might be something some people may not want to fork over. Knowing this is possible, I wonder if the Banco de Mexico will reduce the mintage on the proof set or proof like (PL) kilo? Probably not on the proof set since that set sold out like hot cakes but I don't know if the PL kilo sold out so maybe they might account for that lack of interest and drop the mintage on the PL kilo? .
I think I'm getting bigger fan of Mexican coins every day. It's hard to say now, depends on the final prices and my budget, but I only plan to buy them more, not less. Viva Mexico!!!
I've carried the same 2011 Libertad around in my pocket for the last three years, lost it for 1 year then found it again. Just as a daily reminder to keep on stacking.
Libertads are AWESOME, since I already filled all of the open slots I had with my Kooks...I have been grabbing a lot of Libertads lately
Very interesting if true, I love libertads. I wish news from banco de mexico was distributed in a more official way, but I'll take what I can get, thanks!
