Alan Jones on Q & A (ABC) really stirred up a hornets nest by attacking both sides of the political spectrum on the issue of coal seam gas and coal mining destroying agricultural land in both Qld & NSW..He was right on his game, quoting figures for water usage to expand these industries.

He also stated that Australia was paying $100m a day on interest alone...He blamed the red team for this situation..He said if the people of Australia wanted all the goodies that have been given to them as election bribes then they had no choice but to pay more tax. He mentioned an increase in GST, less rebates for top end of superannuation, pensioners should not get the pension if they own a $3m house and have $1m in the bank.

    Watch Q & A on ABC I view.

Do you AGREE with Alan Jones and his opinion.?

Him and Clive Palmer would make an ideal team. :D

    Regards Errol 43

100% with the pension (or any welfare for that matter) being subject to an assets test.

The USA is 19,000 billion dollars in debt ... that makes our debt level trivial ....

Australia does not have excessive debt, says economist Dr Chris Caton

    Both your palms need shaving!

Why? you are born here, you pay taxes all your life, you contribute, you scrimp and save, and some flog politician decides you 'don't deserve it' ... rubbish! ...and you can be sure they get theirs no matter what their assets!

If you work your entire life in Aus, you get 100% of the pension no matter what you have in assets

If you work 10 years in Aus, 10 years of a 40 year working life, you get 10/40th's or 25% of the pension, no matter what

Socialism at it's best, you paid for the pension, but are denied it because 'you'll be OK' according to some statistician and the western suburbs of Sydney, bollocks! what about all the health cards, medication payment cap etc. etc. that come with the pension, not entitled to any of that either?

I'm loving the socialist utopia we are aiming for comrades... NOT !

Sadly the money that was put into pensions from peoples' earnings was not nearly enough, and never was going to be enough.

If I want to live an extra 20 years after I retire at 60, I will have spent 40 years contributing to the welfare state, if I want to get 60 years of living out of 40 years of work I should really have been putting a third of my earnings into the pension fund.

Was the idea, that I could pay a small (but noticeable) amount of my salary and somehow it will have been magically invested by the government (not known for being particularly good with money) and there would be enough to live on for the rest of my life? Never going to happen.

They should be upfront and honest with people explain that it is our fault for living so long and if everyone had just died at 65 like they were doing when the scheme was put in place then we wouldn't be in this fix. It was only ever meant to be a way of taking our money in return for promises that they didn't think they would ever need to fulfill. When they saw that people were living longer they were so addicted to this money that they kept it going, thinking that the increasing population would cover the costs, like a giant pyramid scheme.

Well now the population isn't growing quick enough, our fault again, and people are not dying like the should be.

It is time to draw the line under this failed attempt to rob us blind, put their hands up and say, we are sorry, we made promises which we didn't think we would have to keep, but it wasn't us, it was ages ago and it was one of the other political parties who done it. You are on your own, we don't have the money and even if we did, we would just spend it on something else because old people will be dead soon after we cut off the money supply so there is no point in trying to get your votes.

You may well be entitled to the promises that were made but if there is nothing there then you have to demand that the next generation hands it over to you. We have to get them to stop promising things that they can't deliver.

Our "government" is not a government in the traditional sense ... it is a corporate entity dictating company policy as "laws" ...

Entitlement Mentality.... bollocks to socialism, and your self-serving claim on everyone else's hard-earned. :p

If you want to try to justify it by "balancing the books" on that which you paid for, then most retired had better start paying it back. ;)

Do you really like Clive palmer? It doesn't make sense if you are against destroying agricultural in Qld in favour of mining why would you support Clive?

Did anyone catch the quick interview on sky with Clive at the Airport either yesterday or Sunday, when Clive said that we should be implementing Quantitative easing like the US and Europe to fix our economy?
