Very little to do with the remints, more to do with the price of silver. $8 over spot seems reasonable to me so ~$30 a coin.
Really?? The 2015 Kook is $29 at goldstackers. Surely original Kooks in square caps that are up to 25 years old are worth more than that? The Gum Tree ones aren't in square capsules and are probably remints.
Only worth more to a buyer who wants the entire 15 coin collection. The price of individual coins is forced up by buyer demand wanting only one off certain coins. Just because a 2008 kook demands a very high premium as an individual sale it doesnt mean the 2008 premium adds to the collective value of common minted coins. Wedge tailed eagles sell for up to $100 each individually but members cant sell rolls for $40 per coin, same with selling many carded stock horses. $8 over spot is a good price. Perth mint released these in clamshells as well as square caps and folders I thought? These coins have no caps just clamshell cases.
The stigma attached to the remints will die over time, when silver is once again in demand, premiums on kooks will recover just fine. As it stands now however $8 -$10 over spot for a kook is about all you're going to get for most years. There are obvious exceptions to that, if people continue to pay more for a square capsule then sell for more, if people pay dumb money for 08 &09 kooks then sell for more. These in my opinion are just fads that will die over time, given the 90s kooks were reminted and the 08 &09 mintage numbers are no different to the rest. There is only 1 kook that should demand a large premium, and that's 1990.
Good I hope they are fads because I would like a 2007 and 2008 Koala and will not pay the silly prices many are asking!
Back in the day (2009 or so), the 1990 kook was the cheapest kook of all. Until 2009 it had been the only kook to reach the full mintage, and those that were available were always toned because they came in the square capsules. Why do you think the 1990 should demand a higher premium than others ?
They're all old, and there's no way all of them still exist after 24 years - much less in good condition. You have rolls of 20 for every other year on the market now, all in pristine condition. If you have a good condition 1990, you should be asking a pretty penny for it.
Totally agree and assume your meaning under 500,00 those of the earlier year mintages of 300,000 or less Especially the 2004
Nope, under 500. Under 500k would great for a higher premium too though. I say under 500 because I have an old Kook from a final mintage of 210 (out of a planned 1000) and I bet fewer than that remain.
You know your Kooks! Yep, its a '93. There have been a couple advertised on the forum. That's where I got mine. I'm surprised the premium on this is often quite low. When I compare it with the huge premium on something like the 5oz 2014 Britannia, it doesn't make any sense. I guess that's just part of the vagaries of the collector market. I agree with the big premium on the 2008 Kook. Its a stunning design that works really well on a coin. I dont' have one though. The 2009 Kook is also one that I think deserves a higher premium. Many of the other kooks are just meh. Besides 2008 and 2009 kooks, there is one particular year that I personally really like that almost no one else actually likes so I was able to get some quite affordably. The low premium worked in my favour there. (Its the 2013 kook).
