I've seen references to "the boat accident" many times and I get from the context that it's based on the thought that the government at some point will come looking to either take or tax your stack, hence "sorry sir, it was lost at sea". What exactly is the concern here? How would they know about your stack in the first place? Do you think they would actually get sales records from dealers and then chase down their clients? A little more detail on the situation from the more experienced members of the forum would be greatly appreciated.

I read on here somewhere that would be by far (by many many orders of magnitude) the most likely scenario is one that would involve a divorce. i.e. the wife knew you had a stack and wanted half. "Sorry your honour, lost it on a fishing trip"

I don't know what you are talking about. None of us on this site have ever owned silver. How could we possible lose something we have never owned?

Ahh, I can see how that would be the most realistic scenario (unfortunately). I just had a sad but oddly funny thought on that subject, I am pretty sure I could show my wife a 2000 oz stack and say that its 100 oz and she would not know the difference....

Do you use a card (debit or credit) to purchase silver?

Yeah, most women choosing between a stack of a thousand 1oz coins and a 1oz necklace would snatch the necklace every time.

What do AUSTRAC do with the info that bullion dealers provide regarding large transactions?

bank wire, but that's about the same to your point. I'm just trying to understand what people think will happen, i.e. the government reviews all bank accounts and flags wires to large online metals dealers, then gets the sales records from the dealers and track you down demanding what, the metals? The gains not knowing what happened since the purchase, i.e. did he sell it for a loss, a gain, or does he still have it? I have trouble seeing how this would play out in a realistic context...

Most of the boating accident stories you read about are real. Especially lately. Cruise ship vacations gone awry,, heck, I used to take my stack out fishing every now and then. I cherished our friendship and the stack needs fresh air every now and then. But no boating accident claimed my stack. Maybe I was one of the lucky ones. I believe 98-99% of the boating accidents are indeed factual.

A few and none of them had a clue about silver. Julie, you might be the exception. Come on, admit it, before you learned about silver you'd have taken the necklace too!

your bank account and super would be $0 long before they came looking for PM's. let's face it, it's easier to push some buttons and steal from you than to use resources coming looking for something they don't know you have. even if they have proof you bought some once, that is no conclusive evidence that you still have it now. F2F cash happens all the time.

besides, they wouldn't have a clue where to start looking!! it's very easy to hide something the size of you thumbnail (1oz Au bar) in a land the size of australia.

This site is not where you will find ''most women'
And the women who are on this site and introduced the men in their life to stacking may not appreciate being stereotyped. But you are American so your world view does stop at the border as you don't own a passport.

Hey, who's stereotyping now? I bet you a 10oz bar that my American passport has more stamps on it than yours.

Pfft that is an easy bet. Anonmiss does not have an American Passport.... What is an American passport anyway? I thought every American country issued separate passports. Is there some sort of American Union (Like the EU) going on we never heard of?
