Hi, I've recently been looking into gold kinebars and I am wondering what everyone's thoughts and experiences are with these. I am mainly a coin collector and not a bar collector but these bars are very appealing. I am wondering what brands you think are the best (or have the best designs) I only know of the Austrian Mint, Argor Haraeus and UBS making Kinebars so if you know any other good brands please let me know. They are also quite hard to buy in Australia especially in the medium range sizes (I am looking to buy either 10g or 1/2 oz), so if you have purchased one I would love to know where you bought it from.

I know that as they are kinebars they will have a higher premium so if anyone knows what premium is fair on a kinebar I'd appreciate it :) and if you guys have possess a kinebar I'd love to see it as I am still wondering about which brand/ design I like best.

    Cheers
    Austro

Wow I have absolutely no idea of what you are talking about, chinaberries and cinibars sound like a dessert. Even a kinebar??

I'm sure someone will know :)

Kinebar is gold bar with hologram printed on the back of it, for security. Nothing special. I prefer coins. something I can get out of package. :)

They weren't difficult to obtain last year. I bought and sold some. Just another bar after you see the flashy hologram in the flesh. :)

Beautiful bears, but the novelty of them wears off fairly quickly

Could be worth getting since some bars are getting faked (e.g. Perth Mint, RCM)

wrcmad where did you get them from and what brand did you get? I am also interested in what the premiums are like on these? I've been able to find some on eBay at fairly decent premiums however I don't think eBay is the safest way to purchase bullion. I also found some on Gold De Royale but I have never heard of them before or know anyone that has dealt with them.

As for PM bars, I have a few bigger ones but they aren't as aesthetically pleasing as these kinebars seem to be.

as for the whole chinaberry and cinebar thing I apologise, I wrote the post late last night and my computer autocorrected it.

Buying from a UBS bullion desk in Switzerland is your safest and best bet, however it might mean the premiums on your bars are slightly higher than you wanted.

Got them from the usual reliable dealers. There is only one brand as far as I know - Argor Heraeus.
I didn't pay a big premium over the same Perth Mint product - otherwise I would not have purchased them. They are at most only a couple of bucks premium.
There was a glut of them at the dealers mid-2013.
The only ones I can find ATM are small ones here: http://www.perthbullion.com/shop/detail/autkinebargbg5/

Thanks for the help, I might buy one or two of those. I would prefer a bigger bar but I don't know how reliable Gold de royale are and if I buy from there it looks like there will be a huge premium.

And as for buying from UBS in Switzerland, If you count the cost of flying over, the accommodation and all other expenses I don't think it would be a very good deal.
