2015 Bald Eagle 2 oz .999 Solid Silver Medal Round Coin Medallion *High Relief Not a coin, but a round. Nevertheless, I absolutely loved the design and picked up one tonight on eBay ($199 US) Note the added bonus of the engraved COA# on the edge. Decently low mintage as well especially for the subject matter/theme. Cheers, Luker "THE SPLASH MINTING PROCESS WE STARTED WITH AN IDEA AND A SKETCH, AND THE NORTHWEST TERRITORIAL MINT TOOK IT FROM THERE. A HAND DONE VERSUS COMPUTER GENERATED SCULPT, WAS CREATED FROM THE ARTWORK OF STEVE BLOOM AND LATISCHA FRANZMEIER, AND THE SPECIAL DEEP-RELIEF DIES WERE PRODUCED. THE SPLASH MINTING PROCESS CREATES COINS THAT ARE THICKER AND CAN ACHIEVE A MUCH DEEPER QUALITY OF DETAIL THAN NORMAL COINS. THE PROCESS REQUIRES THE USE OF SPECIAL DEEP RELIEF COINING DIES PLACED IN A HIGH TONNAGE HYDRAULIC PRESS. WHILE STRIKING A NORMAL COIN TAKES LESS THAN ONE THOUSAND TONS OF PRESSURE, SPLASH MINTING, DUE TO THE HIGH RELIEF AND EXCEPTIONAL DETAIL NEEDED, CAN USE UP TO 1,500 TONS OF PRESSURE TO FORCE THE METAL TO "FLOW" CORRECTLY INTO THE RECESSES OF THE DIE. THIS CAUSES THE EXCESS METAL TO "SPLASH" OUT SIDEWAYS WHEN THE COIN IS STRUCK AND THE EXCESS METAL IS HAND TRIMMED FOR A SMOOTH EDGE. THE RESULTING COIN HAS AN UNMATCHED DEPTH OF FEATURE AND QUALITY OF DESIGN." http://www.ebay.ca/itm/2015-Bald-Ea...ound-Coin-Medallion-High-Relief-/171574696665
love it . The NTR also did the 1.8oz high relief myan calander and it is stunning in its detail, Love how the revers is the revers of the pic and also love how they out the details on the rim so as not to distract from the artwork. Score = 1 more win to the NTR SORRY SHOULD SAY NWT NOT NTR OOOPPPPPPSSSS
Mmmm, whats with the claw marks going through the wing....did the eagle attack itself Apart from the above, I like the concept
Sadly, many medals are not cheap, I'm finding. And deservedly so. Would love to get more into this space. Just having a hard time pulling that trigger on some really cool, yet pretty pricey stuff (in my eyes). Either I do without them, make more money, or pass on some other Ag pieces in order to save up. Quite the quandary, really.. :/
Pretty sure he's referring to this one made by NWTM, who also made this eagle. NTR is a different company and AFAIK doesn't do any kind of high relief like this. Source: NWTM FWIW, the splash minting used to create these is the same minting method that Perth used for the Gods of Olympus series.
Yep both NWT check out face book photos. Sorrry my NTRs and NWT got confused I have pinned pictures of one I have for sale to the top of SA Gold Diggers Warradale facebook page. I have no idea how to import the photos from there to here.
I just found out yesterday that Heidi Watsweet was involved with sculpting this round/medal (Bottom row 7th and 8th columns). I had no idea!
You are correct and I've queried the administrator as to whether the thread could be moved to the more appropriate category of Silver . Cheers, Luker
It's a beautiful medal. I love the design and the ultra high relief. I also like the very low mintage and the fact that each medal has a unique serialized number stamped on the edge...very cool! And lastly, need I say more than to say that Heidi Wastweet did the final sculpt for this medal!! No wonder it looks so rich in detail and so impressive. This one is on my buy list for sure. .
Luker said: Hey Heidi, Perhaps the question is somewhat akin to asking about which of their children is their favourite, but do you have a personal favourite of the coins/rounds/medals that you have sculpted in 2014? Cheers, Luker ...I don't have a single favorite but I certainly have hits and misses. Some haven't been produced yet so I'm withholding judgment on those. I'm especially proud of the Astra. That was difficult and I put a lot into it. I love the Hercules series and my fav so far is the Hind and the 5oz Hercules. Of the Silver Shield series I personally thought the Consumerism Kills (artistically speaking) turned out really well - I love the crowd of skulls and the loose textures. Also the "non vi". The Gary Marks medal is certainly a stand-out. Of my own studio work this was the first year I ever tried terra cotta heads. My favorite is the sleeping head I call Hypnos. And the Muybridge medal is one I've wanted to do for years and finally got around to it. As you can see I've been kinda busy.
