It appears the rumors are true. Islamic State is set to become the only 'state' to back its currency with gold (silver and copper) as it unveils the new coins that will be used in an attempt to solidify its makeshift caliphate. I like the idea of the America's Cup yachts being armed - put some real zest into the final leg. It'd be real tempting to lay hands on some of these ISIS coins, but I'm thinking that would only be lending legitimacy to some right unpleasant bods.
Well played CIA, what better way to undermine the value of gold than directly associating it with terrorism. Propaganda against any russia/china gold basis ready and waiting. And a great reason to trust the fed a little longer? Or jump to a world currency? But I imagine they will probably wait until their tppa etc "trade" deals are signed to do that.
they've gotten control of basically all the cash and PMs in half of Iraq and Syria. They famously took many hundreds of millions of dollars in cash out of central bank vaults, I wouldn't be surprised if they got plenty our gold and silver along with that. Whether they are organising the purchase of PMs with the fiat they've taken or taxed? Probably not, I'm sure they have much higher priorities for their money laundering and smuggling assets. I suppose it would be difficult to ship out the gold and silver they've seized, sell it and ship the money back so they may as well turn it into currency. Of course they are very media savvy so they might just be doing a few thousand coins to get a few media stories out there to push the idea of their status as a country.

My view is that ISIS are minting coins under CIA direction as any attempt to use gold as money by the new axis of evil would deter people from any form of gold backed alternative to the US dollar. This would be a great move if your interests were prolonging a US reserve currency with a plan to implement a global fiat reserve. Put gold in the rhelm of terrorists, then you can treat gold people like terror people and never be challenged.
really? they're making a hell of a lot more every day from oil but I don't see the CIA painting oil as evil and terror lubricant. I love a good conspiracy but that's a little silly.
Maybe the CIA have made it all up and there is no IS! It may be all shot in a studio and then distributed to the Media. That is what they did with the moon landings.
