Hi all new poster and stacker

I live in the UK and unfortunately the government levies a 20% sales tax on silver (VAT) making it non-viable as an investment, even as a hedge. When you factor in manufacturing and transport the price ends up 100% over spot.

A way to avoid VAT is to buy silver second hand. Ebay is good place for this but as I'm sure you know demand is high for second hand silver and the metal on ebay carries a heavy price.

I'm wondering if anybody on SS knows good routes to buy second hand silver in the UK at a reasonable price.

    Thanks in advance.

Find some one in a different country to buy it for you and have it shipped to you.

I've heard a few people mention german silver comes with a lower VAT rate (7% if I remember correctly)

Could you link some reputable dealers that you tend to use?

    Thanks

Indeed. Having obtained enough for my immediate needs, I now no longer import silver but buy it in allocated, segregated storage overseas.

That avoids VAT until such time as I need to import it -and I may never have to. I could ship it to an overseas address (if I left the country) or sell it overseas and import the cash, VAT free.

    Silver-to-go.com

is the cheapest ive found, and the shipping cost is only 10.95
been looking for cheaper but silver to go has been good so far 4 orders delivered 1 processing and 3 others placed awaiting payment.

plus they let you pay 5 days after the order, so good place to buy on a friday :) and not having to worry about funds till the next week. there prices auto update with the price of spot.

I usually sell 1 or 2 coins in the uk market if i buy 20 or more covers the shipping. then coins are listed price.

    used europesilverbullion.com
    celticgold.com

both very good aswell, more selection there, prices just a little to high and shipping can be $49.00 for same order from silver to go.
silvergoldbull.com (canadian) 3 out of 5 went trhough with no vat :)
then again buy semi numismatic (ms69) close to spot as possible and pay 5% vat (if you get charged 20%) you can claim back but takes a while

would never buy from any uk bullion company.

24carat.co.uk is good for silver medalions if thats your thing very very close to spot.
